I was at the Va. Arboretum Fall Plant Sale lots of beautiful plants and plant related items and crafts. Very nice show. There was a landscaper there and this was their display. When I told her that I had friends that would just go crazy over their display she said take some pics so I did. This is a very doable project it was about 4ft wide 8ft long. You would need some kind of center fountain, copper pipe or tubing, section of gutter, ceramic tiles or slate, wood for the frame maybe some wire or metal grid for under the sedums. some kind of catch basin, possibly and extra pump.

Here are some close ups of the plants and construction. I was thinking that the copper pipe that fills the gutter may not be hooked into the fountain bowl. They could easily be two different water loops. A table top fountain and a separate catch basin with tubing and it's own pump. I think this could be easily adapted to a smaller size and different materials. I could even see this made table height and used as a buffet serving area in the garden. Please feel free to discuss your alternative ideas and if any of you decide to try and put one together post some pics and let me know how you do. Holly

It is Magnificent isn't t?? I bet it does have two pumps, wouldn't be to hard to do. Sometimes just camoflaging the pumps are worse tings. I love fountains. I have several.

I was thinking that there were two of them also. If you look at the flow coming out of the copper pipe it looks way too fast to be run off from the fountain. I certainly don't need another small water feature but I sure do like this. It could make for a nice winter project for someone.

You could get a T hookup and do both, bu have to think it tru to do it. You wouldn't have to use copper, since it is so expensive but you can use plastic tubing.

I was only thinking of the copper for it's decorative value you could easily use plastic tubing and just cover it in some way. I was thinking an inexpensive table top fountain would work well for the other part. You can get some pretty inexpensive ones now and it would make the water part very easy to do. Maybe a piece of PVC pipe cut and painted instead of the copper gutter. Maybe ceramic floor tiles in the 12x12 or 24x24 size instead of their cut stone or cut flag stone. Since you wouldn't need a lot of them you might find some leftovers someone is trying to sell cheap. Lots of ideas to adapt this to your size and pocket book.

You could use a copper color paint.

Oh, would I love to see something like that in my back yard. I love the idea of making taller legs so it could double as a serving or eating counter. Wonder what the raccoons would do with it? You could make all kinds of variations of it.

Wow, I love it too! In fact, I even have a round fountain I was tired of and thinking what else I could do with it. It's a little big (4' diameter), but I could figure something out. Thanks for taking so many pictures of it and for all your great ideas too.

I knew you guys would just over it just like I did. I can envision a lot of different ways to put something like this together really make it your own design. The other nice thing is it could be set up and moved if you needed too. I was wondering how porous Hypertufa is I could see using that to make a stone looking gutter and lid for the catch basin.

If you pack hypertufa down real hard it will hold water. I've made several bird baths that way and they still hold water after 5+ years. Another great idea Holly!

Okay Holly, I followed you over here and you've got me, hook, line and sinker! You know this is the second time this landscaper has set this up and I still haven't investigated closer to see how it works! Usually the only time I have to visit their booth is before the sales start up and no one from the landscaping company is ever around! I'll be watching this thread to see if anyone attempts to make one because I love the idea. I remember the DG thread about making a "bubbler fountain" and thinking somehow you could use the same technique? If Ric gets it figured out let me know!

Debbie thank you for posting here. I just realized you have an awesome nursery site here in Cubits.org and also on the web. I have bookmarked your web site as there are some wonderful plants I am interested in adding to my gardens.
I think there will be many different versions of this fountain showing up here come next spring. Will be interesting to see what different people come up with.

Did you do photos while at her nursery Holly? Does she have any succulents? I haven't had time yet to really go through her web site. It is beautifully set up from what little I had time to look at.
