It hasn't, I still have the system message saying I got a thumbs up but there's no thumbs up showing on the post here.

It says in my system messages that I got the thumbs up three hours ago. BWV998 seems to have given and retracted the test thumbs up ten minutes after I posted, so also around three hours ago. Was it longer than that when it happened to you Kadie?

System messages never disappear. If you give a thumb, the user gets the system message. If you later retract the thumb no new system message is created.

These reasons are why I'd ideally like to see the report button well removed from the others. Hopefully people aren't reporting posts all the time; so it should be a rare occasion when it gets used. But who out there has never clicked on the wrong button once in awhile? There are days my mouse coordination is dreadful.

People keep talking about accidentally hitting the report button even though it has been repeatedly said that you can't accidentally report someone. If you hit the button by accident you still have to verify that you want to report the post. If you don't then you can hit cancel or the back button on your computer and no report is made. It's been moved once and looks fine where it is. If it was moved again someone else would have a problem with the new location. With over 50,000 members there is no way to make everyone happy.

I'm new here and I'm still getting used to the site so its easy for me to say its ok for a report button but i wont be using it I don't want to report anyones post but can't see why it shouldn't be available if needed!
In my short time being here I've found everyone to be very nice and very helpful.

Not to sit on the fencepost here, I'm not exactly middle-ground on this, but my opinion is such:

I can see why others are worried about it. I was worried, too, that I might accidentally hit the report button, especially on my phone. I have skinny fingers, but I have a tendency to fat-finger buttons at the worst times; so, before I knew there would be an 'are you sure'-type message when you press the report button, I was very nervous about using the thumbs-up on my phone those first couple of days.

That said, however, I do like the report feature. As everyone else has already mentioned, I don't see myself using it. I would be willing to if I saw someone who was clearly acting inappropriately, but that's just not the culture here on NGA, thankfully, and I doubt that I'll have the misfortune of running into someone who needs reported.

I'm also glad that you mentioned that it was moved, because I thought it was in a different spot before and then I thought I was going crazy for thinking it moved. (Just like I thought I was going crazy for not having seen the stars on each post when I discovered them....last year, I think it was?)

The report button was alarming, no doubt, for many of us who've been on the site 'awhile' and aren't used to it. Change is a part of things, though, and I think it's very telling that atleast one of our 'newbies' (I say that with affection, not patronizingly) says that it seems fine and normal to have it. It's those of us who have been around awhile who notice the ('glaring') new red button and are intimidated by it. To anyone just coming in, it, rightfully, seems like a normal thing to have and they think little of it.

That's my two....well, ten cents worth of opinion, LoL! I'm happy to know that I can't accidentally report someone, and I'm happy to know that the button is there in case it ever becomes necessary. It won't, because we're all a big happy family on here, but it's nice to know it's there, just in case. Big Grin

That spam reporting Dave suggested only works if the spammer starts the thread. If it's in the middle of a thread then use the other options like reporting on Site forum or clicking on the Contact at the bottom of every page and report the post numer. (click on it then copy and paste the URL of the post)

That tattle-tale button is really putting me off my feed. Every time I go to give a thumbs-up, there it sits. Just sayin'.
