Hi Hetty, our temps are in the low 50s and forcast for rain every day this week, I think this is a good time to bring them in and let them go dormant, I need you to refresh my memory, when I bring them in I can keep them in warm plant room or in colder garage, to let them go dormant do I just stop watering, and leave them in their pot.?

I would clip the leaves before taking them inside, mostly because they will fall off anyway and then they make a mess.
Cooler garage is fine, just be sure your area is frost free. No watering. Leave in pot or bareroot, whichever you prefer.
You may spray with a dormant oil to make sure no critters overwinter...

great advice mine are slowly dropping leaves think i got another month being down here i still have one blooming!!! Hetty are you drowning yet? that storm looks like coming my way in about 24-48 hrs i moved all the new little adenium under my arbor to deflect some of the water.

Well it rained ALL day - light in the morning and pouring in the afternoon and evening. I haven't been able to get to my mailbox!! I was annoyed because I had the day off and had plans for yard stuff, but ended up cleaning out my closet and washing the floors instead!

Even if your plumeria are dropping leaves they will continue to bloom, some of mine will bloom until Christmas!

Plumeria with blooms until Christmas?? That's awesome.

Here is a picture of 'Donna S' blooming on Christmas day last year. That same inflo hung on and started blooming again in April.

that's great hope mine will last close to that i have started to move little closer to the house so it will stay warmer longer and gets as much sun as i can!
It is amazing how much heat a house can take in during the day and give off at 4 am!

Well I brought mine into the plant room and my daughter has convinced me to keep it going since I have the room I decided I would, if I happen to get any blooms I will let you know, had no blooms all summer but the plants are very healthy.

Hi Hetty. You are still the go-to person on all things plumeria. I now have a dozen plumies some of which have reached 6-7 feet tall. Trying to fit everything into the tool shed/winter plant home, and the plumies are just huge. Some have begun dropping leaves which I know is normal. Question: When they were all new-borns (2-3') I took your advice and took them out of their pots, cleaned the dirt, took off the leaves, put the roots all together into a paper bag and stored them on a shelf. Is there a size where that is no longer advisable. Kept them in the shade through our summer of 71 days over 100 with the sun's rays like a hot fire. They are strong and healthy. We are supposed to have mid 80's with lows in the 60's all next week. Not ready to denude them just yet but need to have a plan as our temps can change within an hour.

Christi - same thing applies. Bareroot them for the winter. There is no cell activity when plants are dormant and so they don't need anything. In Houston, which is a big Plumeria center, people do this every year. Into the shed by Thanksgiving, and out in March (or thereabouts).
A well-known grower there has a huge garage for his Motorhome, and he pulls it out at that time, stores all his plumeria in the garage (some hanging from the rafters!!) and drives to the Florida Keys for the winter!

I only have one Plumeria left ... I gave ten away a couple of years ago and lost a couple that I forgot and left outside last winter. My one remaining tree (I can't remember the name) bloomed in June, July and part of August. We had a low last night of 49º and I found a few leaves on the deck this morning so I decided to move it to a more sheltered spot against the south side of the house. I ended up knocking off 18 leaves when I moved it. When it begins to get real cold here I will remove it from the pot and wash the soil from the roots, dry them real well and wrap the roots in newspaper and store it on the enclosed back porch, or in the garage.

Thanks to both of you. Yesterday I whacked the citrus trees and the hibiscus as they, too, are small trees and there is just no room. Three citrus and 4 very large hibiscus. Scarey thing for me to do. Took a long time and lots of care to get them to this stage and I hope I haven't killed them.

Lin Im also in central Florida over on west side in clermont have a bunch of those small co-op plants thinking letting them go dorm it but have 3 big trees im going to try to bring in we both know the frost and freeze will come for sure mabe we can meet sometime and i always have plants for sale good prices but im a sucker for trading more. like building friendships that way your tree looks great!!!

good luck i feel your pain of getting those plants and trees where you what them and doing great and then the weather starts to turn and you have to decide cut and hope to keep or gamble (which i always loose)

Great ideas for storing plummies. I now have more room for more plummies. My plummies are still blooming right now. Maybe I will clean them up and store them in two weeks.

got another question. As we spoke before my small plumeria going dorm it im in no hurry but i have some that are totally leafless and i have been having cool weather but now its going up in the low 80"s height 70" and we got rain 2 days in a row now i look and there putting out new leaves.Should i just leave them and let them do what they are going to do till like December when it gets colder i dont think it will be good to store good in my garage when it will be 85 in there your suggestions?
