I bought a cantua hotpants in a 4 inch pot about 8 years ago and the plant has done real well (7 feet tall and healthy-looking), but it has never flowered. It gets about 6 hours of direct sun in the middle of the day and normal water. Someone suggested that it might not like fertilizer, although I wasn't overfertilizing it, so I stopped fertilizing entirely about 4 months ago. No change. Any ideas? It has never had any freeze damage.

It could be that it's too warm for it in San Jose, the species originally came from the Andes. She writes that it's "Best in cooler areas, or in shade if you live inland."

I lived in San Jose, until about 5 years ago, and grew the species http://www.anniesannuals.com/p...

I agree Also I would suggest misting to raise humidity. Also bloom forumla fertilizer if your not using it allready.
