Knowing how Brugs are fine until freeze, I am not worrying at all about mine, unless (knock on wood!!!) we get a serious freeze warning. I'm sure, against the building they stay a few degreees warmer than in the open, too.
Plant it and they will come.

Life is "mind over matter". If I d
Donner-- what do you call a "Red 'Dragon Wing' ??
Most Dragon-wing Begonias have red in them--somewhere....
I love the small-leafed Begonias--they have a lot of character and color....

I have had many begonias--and I, usually, root them in water...in a glass on a window sill. You can see the roots right through the glass...
I have rooted them in soil--takes a pretty long while. Water seems the easiest. .

I have way too many begonias! They all sit on a huge tray on my twin bed --in my
guest bedroom upstairs....
The BIG AW Begonia, which spends it's life on my front steps and, sometimes--blooms nicely. This is an the "OLD" Begonia. I have had it since "The cows came home"... G.

Pelargonium roots easily, right? Last year I bought one of the ones with very colorful leaves. It did poorly. I think I was leaving it too hot and dry. So now I tonight I'd cut some stems and start new. The original now in a plastic pot, ought to branch out, right?
Gita do you have an extra of the 'old ' Begonia with large, spotted, oval leaves? I think it is called Corallina de Lucerne, by the way. Or just corallina.
Plant it and they will come.

I once bought a yellow orange Brug, it bloomed wonderful but it died in Winter. I thought it really died, so I tossed it out. I bought several times Plumeria, pink and white/yellow, all died. You all have magic, to be able to root all those things. Bali has so many Plumeria and Brugs. I cannot even keep Pandan (Pandanus--or Screwpine) alive. Bought 2 last year and both of them died. I must have left my green thumb in Indonesia, where everything that I planted lived. I guess I washed my thumb too much before leaving Indonesia-instead all the weeds are very healthy!

aw, Francine! it must be a challenge to garden in a completely different environment. Your message is cute. Smiling
You remind me I should unpack my plumeria and maybe pot her so she can start growing more. I don't think outside is totally safe yet for her, but she has a couple little leaves trying to grow in the basement corner. Alocasia, that can come out.
Plant it and they will come.

Life is "mind over matter". If I d
Saly--
You are talking about my old "Angel Wing begonia"? The one with spots on the
LEAVES AND A "MEAT-COLORED BOTTOM???
The one I always kept on my front steps? Bloomes in big clusters of pink/red flowers? I really neglect the potted ones! I seldom water them--as these all live on one of the twin beds.
I have about 3 growing in small pots 5" " or 4"). You can also have the cut off end of one of the old canes. I do not, usually, keep those. BUT--they WILL root...
I also have several that Olga always grew. it is more speckles--and the leaf-edges
are serrated. I have lots of those....

I have quite a few Beefsteak Begonias rooted and growing as well. Interested???

Gita, Yes, the first one you described,
I do have Olga's serrated one, and a beefsteak you gave me last year. Maybe someone else will take?
Plant it and they will come.

@gitagal, 'Dragon Wing' is not a rare Begonia. If you google it, you will recognize it in the photos. I received a pack of 6 baby plants from Holly a few years ago, and planted them around a 'Black Magic' Elephant Ear in a very large pot - I will see if I can find a photo when I have access to a different PC. The Begonia branches arched out, very elegant. So I thought I would do the same again this year if I can make the cuttings grow. @sallyg - cannot believe I had completely forgot about rooting Begonia cuttings in water.

@Chantell My Brugs and most other plants have been outside for a while. As Jill said, I just keep an eye on the forecasts. I move them back inside if the night temperatures drop below 35F. It is a warmer where you live. Yours should be outside too. They have shared out living spaces long enough, hehe.

@tantefrancine It is like learning to garden all over again, itsn't it! Sticking tongue out

I'm pulling some "insurance" cuttings from some of my new plants before or as they go into the ground. Sedum cuttings are temporarily in water, although they usually root readily in potting mix (or just shoved into the ground, LOL). I'll "layer" some of the plants as I go, also, so some little plants can get started for later separation (or just to make a bigger clump/mat).
We're all learners, doers, teachers.

Begonias. Long time ago, in my early years in Heidelberg, BRD, I went to an exhibition of begonias. It was amazing. The flowers were as big as HT roses. They were beautiful. I did not even have a camera then. I have ordered several begonias from Logee's, they have beautiful leaves, but they all died Sad . I also have bought and kept alive several years all kinds of tropical plants, banana flower bush (Michelia figo), kananga, osmanthus, all kinds of jasmines, including the one which was grown as a hedge, kaffir limes, do not remember how many times I bought them. They all died. I still have the jasmine that Chantell gave me last year, still alive! Chantell I still want the nightblooming one if you are coming. I guess, do not give up! BUT my orchids (the moth kinds) are still alive and 2 of them are blooming!

@tantefrancine - sadly I will not be at this year's spring swap. I will root a few NBJ's for the fall swap though for anyone interested.

I haven't even put my brugs in their BIG pots yet for the summer.
They are still in the pots they grew in last summer--but they ARE outside.

Nothing much has been done in my garden yet...Trying to catch up on days I
am not working. Thurs.--fri.--Sat.--
I have done a lot this week..for me--that is..

Mowed my lawn--Cam--you would be jealous...the front lawn is spectacular...
The back lawn always has all those exposed Maple roots to deal with,
pain in the butt... but the grass is green and nice even there..
NOT for long... Gita
