: I was thinking about posting this one as my favorite but I've only seen pictures of it. Hoping it will bloom in 2017.

Captain Thunderbolt is very popular, and it's price has held up for quite a few years more then most introductions. It's prettier in real life then in pictures for sure a beauty.

Having to only choose ONE iris??? Omg I don't know if can do that...it would probably be a new one I got, but I haven't seen any of them in person yet so I dont know if I could decide yet. It would probably be one with gilted standards and ruffles (if one such as that exists).

Also I'm wickedly jealous that you have a rebloomer putting up a stalk in New England right now!

According to the dates in the database, Captain Thunderbolt has been on my want list the longest. So does that put me first in line when it comes to divide it? Whistling

The warmth is still holding. I'm so glad that I'm getting to see an iris in bloom so soon. That's worth the price of admission for a newbie!

Oh heavens, just one? Owyhee Desert? It would definitely have to be one that has a nice scent, so I could enjoy the smell as well as the visual treat.

If I were smart I would pick a re-bloomer so I got to enjoy it at least twice a year.....

Captain Thunderbolt is not the fastest grower in my garden. It's parent By Jeeves is a better grower and looks a lot like CT.

I know it doesn't fit this request, but there is a thread of best dozen you might want to look at. The thread "Top dozen TBs to recommend to a perennial gardener: your nominations" in Irises forum

Ooh, I'm not sure which one I like more. By Jeeves is more dramatic and moody. If it grows that much better, then forget CT! Sticking tongue out

Welcome! Tiento

I believe my wife had the best response to my questioning her as to what iris is her favorite Iris when she said: "the one that's in bloom at the moment I'm currently enjoying". So I agree with her there is NO right answer to your question, but if I absolutely had to choose it wouldn't be flashy or with multiple colors or patterns but the good old Orange Harvest because my wife loves the color orange, it was the second Iris we ever purchased and has grown and produced bloom stalks every year for us even in less than ideal conditions since the redwoods block the sun in the afternoon and we get less than 5 hours sun even on the best of days. In other words, find an Iris that 'speaks to you'. It seems that the fortuitous bloom stalk right off 'the bat' might be a sign that you've found your special Iris already. Good luck and best wishes for a spectacular year ahead.

Welcome! Tienito!!!! Clarence is a great Iris! To me it almost glows in the sun. It reblooms more than any other Iris for me. If I could only choose one, it would be Teagan. In my book, it's nothing short of perfection. It's an SDB though. Do those count?
