I'm new to seed saving and day lillies. Just this last year I bought a couple of De oro's. I'm not sure what dips and tets mean. Is it referring to types of day lillies? I'm sorry.

I was able to find a little information on what those terms mean and the differences between them. Looks like I would enjoy tetraploids. I will send you the cash. How much? Can we PM on here or do we need to use personal email? Sorry, new to this site too.

Do you have any seeds left? If so, I would love a mix of the types and could send a check or cash. What steps do I take to get the seeds?

Hemlady, I am in just my second year of dealing with day lilies and have gotten interested in trying to grow them from seeds. I noticed you have free seeds and wondered if you still have any left? I would also like to know how to send you the $3.00 ( address) if that is a stupid question remember I'm not much with electronics as is the rest of your people.

Hi Cindy

I've never grown Daylilies from seed before, are they easy to start and how long before they bloom?

All of my Daylilies were given to me by friends and are noids. I do know that I prefer Spiders or the more spider like. Not the closed petal kind.

As you probably deduced, I don't know what a dip or tet is either. *Blush*

I'm interested depending on what you can tell me. If you're still doing this. . that is.

Thank You! Thank You!

Earlier hybrid daylilies are all "diploid" with 2 sets of chromosomes. "Tetraploid" hybrids have 4 sets of chromosomes. Both groups have beautiful varieties... I've heard some people claim that tets are more robust, but I've also noticed some of the still-around early hybrids are very robust, so your mileage may vary,.

I think the only reason to pay attention to "dip" vs. "tet" is if you are crossing your daylilies to produce seeds... you can't successfully cross a dip with a tet. Daylilies are only fertile with others that have the same number of chromosome sets.

Just passing along what I remember from the DL forum -- hope I got the gist of it correct!

I have to thank you again for the seeds, Cindy... lots of purples and spiders in my mix... I appreciate your hand-picking the crosses for me! I went through and looked them up, and I don't think there was a single one that I said, hmm, better pass these along to somebody else. Actually, I do remember being lukewarm on one -- until I looked up the parentage and got all jazzed about the potential mix of genes. Smiling I'm going to have to plow up a row for seedlings somewhere.... they may end up along the front edge of my veggie garden!

I hope you get some nice ones Jill. I certainly do not have the room to plant them all and if someone else would like some I always have a lot to share. Smiling

If I get anything spectacular, I'll offer you the first available increase! :-)

I don't think I have room for them all either, but I'll get them all started and then share at the spring swap with other mid-Atlantic NGA-ers. The best ones will be shared amongst ourselves at future swaps. Smiling

This will be my last year offering seed as we are hoping to move in the spring. I will take most of the daylilies with me but if I decide to continue hybridizing, it won't be till summer of 2018. There is a lot to consider which includes internet service. The area we are moving to does not have cable so I would have to look into how I can get back online. Only 2 satellite companies are offered, so we'll just have to do a lot of investigating.

Your move sounds exciting! Selfishly, I really hope you find a way to stay online in your new home... you'd be terribly missed!! Internet via cell phone seems to work remarkably well in most areas, but if you're rural enough for no cable you may have spotty cell tower coverage also.

Just wanted to say thanks again for the seeds you sent! I started them a couple of weeks ago & all but one cross has started already. Can't wait to see how they do. A couple of these look like they must make a very big, sturdy plant judging by the seedling

Cindy, your move sounds exciting! I'm in a city now, but I sure miss my more rural days even with spotty services! The seeds I got from you last year are coming along, and I hope to be able to get blooms this year. We shall see on that, but I sure hope you can continue to be here!
