Thread OP

Hello, my names leann. I have a question thats been troubling me. You see i wanted to harvest all my winter squashes about a week ago before i went on travel. But i decided to give them another week. Before i left i covered the friuts with thick staws and sheets. Incase it got cold. Unfortunately when i got back today i checked on them and some of the fruits had little dark spots on the skin. I guessed it was from the cold. Will this harm the friut?? Is it still edible? Will it store for a few months?
Will it rot over time ?? Please help me. Thank you.

Welcome! LeAnna, I assume you're in Arizona? Do you know how cold it actually got while you were away? Retrospective weather data is usually available online. I'm wondering if the problem was more the straw and sheets that kept them too damp and allowed fungi to attack the fruits. Can you post a picture of the spots?

The damaged fruit. Just cut damaged part off. It'll be ok to eat.freeze. take the worst one and operate on. 👹 see how deep. If superficial or through skin.
If the spots start to get soft. Make some room in freezer. 😎😎😎
