Big healthy dark green leaves, nice stems. A couple have buds on them. I'm trying to figure out whether to plant tomorrow or wait until spring. I can shelter them in a daylight window which is like an underground greenhouse. My hibiscus grow very well there all winter.
I'm tempted to plant because they are going right next to the house, which is brick. Our nights should be in upper 30s, low 40s next few weeks. What do you all think?
Many of my roses are still blooming.

Roses are a lot hardier than Hibiscus. I think you won't have any problems planting them now in zone 7.

The advantage of putting them in with the hibiscus is they would continue to grow and bloom all winter. In the spring, I would be planting bigger plants. Here, tropical hibiscus left outdoors are deader than dead by the end of October. THat window must stay above 40 all winter.
OTOH I've lost most roses I've planted in the fall, but then I didn't mulch correctly either. The soil is still pretty warm.
So you're thinking outdoors is better?

No, not at all! I'm just speculating. I have no experience with your zone. I would be tempted to plant them in the ground simply because it's easier than growing them inside.

By the way, Hibiscus are deader than dead by the end of November here in zone 9. I used to bring them inside during Thanksgiving weekend, but last year the frost hit a week earlier.

If any of you are thinking of ordering from the Brushwood sale, I would say do it quickly. A friend posted a question about looking for mini climbers on facebook and I replied that Brushwood had really nice ones for $10...and then later noticed that her initial comment was on the ARS facebook wall! And so is mine, now.
Good publicity for Brushwood, but I had not intended it to come from the ARS!
I forgot to order Colette.
Our high temps will be upper 60s, low 70s for another week. I'm still planting mums, too.
Hurray!

I'm looking to see if I can get some roses shipped early to me. The two I experimented with last year by planting in mid November wintered just hunky-dory and bloomed all summer! Of course, I babied them by putting the cutoff bucket around the 6" of cane I left above ground, and then filled the buckets with more mulch so they were 100% covered all winter! And we didn't have that bad of a winter, hardly any snow. The snow I got yesterday is about half-melted already & the rest will be gone by this weekend with weather in the 60s all weekend. *sigh* I just wish that the weather would decide what season it wants to be!! Halloween's supposed to be back in the 60s but another snow storm comes through on Wednesday. Go figure.
Roses are one of my passions! Just opened, my Etsy shop (to fund my rose hobby)! http://www.etsy.com/shop/Tweet...
