welcome to the iris form karen. you'll find it a lot of fun and soooo much information & knowledge to be gleaned.

Thumb of 2016-10-20/shizen/e15669 not a tall bearded, but japanese irises have some beautiful blue coloration. plus some of them can be four to five feet tall.

Has anyone ever grown Mexican Shellflower? it's a close relative of the iris, but doesn't have the above ground rhizomes and it acts like a daylilly sending up one flower after another. I will say they may be a bit garish compared to bearded Irises but they really do put on quite an exotic show. They also might be an answer for people dealing with borers? Sadly they don't come in blue Sad I don't know if anyone would be interested but I collected a ton of seed and this is the time of year its recommended to sow them.

They are interesting Rebekah, but I am in a zone to cold to leave them in the ground.

I'm interested! I really wanted Wisteria Lane, but forgot to add it to my Iris Whisperer order. Nordica I ordered last year but was the wrong rhizome 😣

Nordica is fabulous. The white is so crisp -- and the beard is outstanding! Everybody needs clumps of white Irises throughout their beds -- it makes all the other colors stand out.

both are lovely but I agree Mary Ann everyone needs white iris. Nordica is beautiful!

Having Mexican Shell flower by the pools sounds very tropical UndertheSun. Did you like them? You know every so often I would find a hornet in them looking confused. I think they were attracted to the red mottling in the center that didn't turn out to be a meal after all.
Thank you again for offering Rhizomes! Do you prefer paypal, check, cash?

I didn't realize Tigridia's has such a limited climate. This is going to be their first season wintering over. I wonder how they will do I purchased them when I thought I was living in zone 8b, I looked up my zone multiple times and it was only recently when I looked it up on this site and in one of the Master garden resources it came up as 7b. Hmmmm, well I guess I'll just have to see what they do. Washington has such rainy winters but hopefully my yard basically being a sandbank and the fact they are growing in a slightly raised bed, will keep them from rotting Crossing Fingers!
