Welcome! Rebekah!!!! Another light blue iris that I absolutely love is Navajo Jewel. The color is so unusual. I agree with the Big Box store Irises. I don't even try anymore because I just get sad when what I thought I was getting turns out to be something totally different and something I would have never picked. And also ordering directly from the vendor also provides you such healthier plants (well that's my opinion).

Also, I find the Acidic soil info on this thread very helpful. My soil leans Alkaline and I know we really can't even grow Blue Hydrangea's here without adding additives to up the Acid level but here is the good news....I have grown blue irises. Many are not blue but then all of a sudden you find that one cultivar that despite the Alkaline still shines through true blue. So enjoy the adventure of finding those that are blue for you.
If you think there is no more beauty left in the world...Plant a garden!!!

I agree It is especially upsetting to find out it is a wrong plant after 2-3 years of growing it. Bought Starship Enterprise from Springhill Nursery 3 years ago. It bloomed this spring and it was NOT SE. Grumbling

My tallest irises are Italian Ice and Crystal Pattern. They are 40"+. My favorite light blue iris is Sea Swells. Though it is a very slow increaser, it does bloom well.

I agree, I'm sure the vendors are more trustworthy plus I'd rather support them, after all they are providing so much more in variety, not to mention many of them are developing new cultivars. I will definitely be ordering from them in the future. I'm just whetting my appetite till then....must sell more paintings lol!....

GreenIris: Navajo Jewel is beautiful! Love the blue! .... yep writing it down

The plant data base is amazing I love seeing pictures from other gardeners. It so nice to get
a much better depiction of the plants actual color in varying growing zones.

Kousa: Sea Swells is another one of the blues I'm looking for thanks!... Thanks for sharing, I looked up Italian Ice and Crystal Pattern I really do like the irises with height : nodding
....I love thats theres trekkie Hybridizers! I can understand your frustration with not getting the right one. It's happened to me with roses though I didn't have to wait 2 years ....still frustrating when one spends the time and money.

A late Hello and welcome to you Rebekah! Welcome! You have gotten some excellent advice here.

I remembered a page that was listed a few years back about combinations of irises. On looking I think this is actually the one and it's about companion plants...but they (2 pages) have got such beautiful ideas for planning new gardens I though you and others might enjoy them.

While looking for the above pages I also ran across this page on the color terminology for irises. We had a lot of discussion about this about a year back so I thought some of the newer members might enjoy and appreciate the information.

Enjoy the eye candy!!

Good to see you popping in Marilyn..

Thanks Jan! New to Iris Forum but have been hanging around NGA or ATP since 2014. Been bitten by a number of bugs beginning with peony, then rose, then daylily. Would have been bitten by the iris bug but the borers hastily put a stop to that. Hilarious! But I am ready to move on from that experience. So many beauties out there to tempt me like all the blue ones posted above. Lovey dubby Lovey dubby
