Are the pots different from a large ceramic pot? Frost proof? I love all the pics!

Teresa, glazed ceramic pot survive the cold much better than unglazed terracotta because the glazed walls don't absorb the water. There's no expansion/contraction ...sort of like a non-permeable barrier?

But I would think that the pot has to be glazed inside as well, no?

Gee, Marilyn...I will have to check the inside of those pots!
Anyway, not being a ceramic whiz or potter, I can only look up the difference between "frost resistant pots and frost-proof pots".

A Houzz website article entitled "Beat the Frost With Natural Terra Cotta"Containers"
gives a little info:
"In zones where frosts tend to be light or nonexistent, it may be worth looking for pots labeled as "frost resistant" as they should be less porous. having been fired at a higher temperature."

"Frostproof" pots should be just what the name implies, able to survive any amount of frost, as they are fired to a high temperature resulting in a pot that does not allow water to soak into it."

I think my purchased pots were advertised as frost-resistant and I went with that as my pots were going to stay on the porch against one side of the house during the winter.

Update: This pot had a large noid that was starting to form a bloom stalk. I lopped it off and hoped to maybe get an offset Crossing Fingers!
Thumb of 2023-07-16/webesemps/3c3c27

After a while more bloom heads came in strong and I pulled the entire rosette out of the big pot
Thumb of 2023-07-16/webesemps/37bbcc

Taking one last admiring look at the semps before chucking it, I turned the rosette around and noticed an offset growth hidden by the lower leaves...Yipee!!
I repotted the blooming head to hopefully get the offset further along to have a tiny stem so that I can remove it and plant it. More hoping to be done Crossing Fingers!

I have seen this also, more blooms form rather than regular chicks.
Depending on the cultivar you may kind of figure out which ones will also also get the chicks to bloom, some seems to be more prone to that than others, so I wonder what will happen with that chick, will it also bloom or not.
If the size of the chick is acceptable you can plant without a stolon as it's not needed for forming roots.

Hurray! A reward. How sweet. I have removed all the new blooming offsets several times and eventually got healthy offsets.
I don't remember seeing that container before? Love the sedum mixed in.

Lynn, it's the frost-resistant 20 in diameter pot that we drove from Santa Fe, NM to Boulder, CO to get per suggestion of the Denver Botanical Garden.

I remember that view of the pot, just didn't know it was planted that way. Love that pot.

Just took a pic of nifty Noid that I call Lynn's Gift. It's looking so happy and eye catching in the ways I like: young fuzzy, bright cherry pink and healthy!

Beautiful Bev. They look small, assuming that is a 4" pot.

Connie, for awhile I was keeping to a no feeding schedule and last year I decided to start feeding regularly, not for size but for proliferation that leads to what I call the "colony look". Yes, they are small but if they also get bigger then it will help to fill up the pot next year! Crossing Fingers!

That is so cheerful, Bev. I have another one you might like to try, stays tiny, but fuzzy with wonderful spring/summer colors.
