In the lily database. The following approved submissions are showing up at the top of the first page of the lily database as well as in their proper alphabetical place. I haven't tried deleting the wrongly located ones yet.

All of yesterday's new rose additions are on the first page too. Oddly, some are listed above the general "Rosa" entry and some are below it., and they don't seem to be listed in alphabetical order or the order in which they were added to the database.

Same here (above and below). But all are also listed alphabetically in their proper place. I'm guessing the same with roses?

I haven't looked for any in their proper place. Now that all of the alternative names are entered in the database, browsing for roses is a total hassle.

Same problem with lilies... lilies having multiple names. For now I have avoided that problem by making use of the synonym field. All the names are in one place with the associated lily and a search of any of the names will take you to the same single place. I've tested it and it works Smiling .

Okay, I just looked for one of the new entries that's on the first page, and you're right: It's also on the page where it should be.

The synonym field, huh? Maybe that's a possible fix for the whole thing. In general, though, the search function seems to be too comprehensive now. A search for "Rosa Be My Baby" brings up a long, long list of every rose with "baby" anywhere in its name, then a long, long list of every hibiscus with "baby" in its name, and at the very end -- the rose I'm looking for. A search for "Be My Baby" without the "Rosa" brings up 12 pages of possibilities, and I have 60 items per page set as my default.

Dave, I have been holding off on entering new lily names in the DB for fear of them disappearing (e.g., delete one the other goes too). There aren't many of them, less than two dozen at the moment and I informed the submitters about what is going on. Is it safe to go ahead and accept them? I have a separate record of the ones that have already been added since this problem started.

In going back and re-reading this thread, I want to caution you to not use the synonym field for anything except synonym botanical names.

Additional cultivar names should go in the cultivar fields. That's what they are for.

The synonyms are only intended for genus/species synonyms.

Now that we're finished migrating to the new server, I can move down to my next highest priority items, which are finishing up all my recently added TODO items for the database, especially this "Browse by genus" issue.

I am looking under the entire persimmon listing and don't see it. http://garden.org/plants/brows...

If you enter persimmons in the search, that's the word it looks for. If you enter just the word 'persimmon', your list will be even longer.
