When filling extra large containers, I'll stand a few 2-liter soda bottles (filled with water and capped) in the bottom of the container to take up space that the daylily roots probably won't need. The water ensures that the containers don't end up top-heavy. If it's something that needs to be moved around a lot, the bottles can be left empty.

Hi Daniel, sorry I missed your post, my apologies.

Yes, Blue-Eyed Butterfly might work very well, thank you for the suggestion. I have a few older Lambertsons that I can cross with Dreamy Drawing: Eyes-A-Blue, Intricate -Eyes, Blue-Eyed Butterfly, Blue Jay Way and Jenny Butterfield are all in my garden.

Intricate Eyes has that lovely triangular pointed eye too so that might be a good one.

Mokan Butterfly might be a good one to cross with too as it has a beautiful eye colour here and is VERY white and I got tet 'In the Navy' this year which I am taking a chance on as I couldn't find the dip version. If it survives and is fertile I can try that.

Other ones I have and could use are 'Threshold of a Dream' (which should be a good hardy cross for Europe/North), Lake Effect and both Ann Hathaway's Garden and Blue Spring are TETs so I shall have plenty of choice.

I actually have more tets than I thought, oh, forgot Mystical Rainbow and then I have my Gold and orange ones but I don't want to cross gold/orange with pink/purple, just a personal thing but I know from doing hair colours-if you put purple hair dye on ginger hair you get MUD! Rolling on the floor laughing

I bought just one TET seed cross this year, Crayola Explosion x Whale Tails and I have some tet seeds from Valerie/touchofsky so in a few year's time I might have something nice there too.

I am always open to suggestions.

LOVE those Spunky seedlings, I think I might have to have a trip to America and raid Fred's seed stash when he isn't looking! Rolling on the floor laughing

I daydream all winter about what crosses I'll do with my newly acquired daylilies. Hybridizing is just as addictive as collecting plants, if not more. Those are all great daylilies and Crayola Explosion x Whale Tails should give you some unique flowers to play with. Thumbs up

You and me,both, Ginny!

I keep finding myself eyeing up my elderly neighbours' derelict garden and debating whether to go around and offer to plant it up for her.

If we weren't thinking of moving I would have done it already! Rolling on the floor laughing

Daniel, I keep doing that too but then I think of daylilies that I DON'T have that it would cross really nicely with.......... and then I start looking for them! Rolling on the floor laughing

I'll be interested to see what the Crayola Explosion x Whale Tails produces too, I will hopefully know in a few year's time! Smiling

Yeah I'm bad for that too, but with our database it makes it easy to narrow down what your looking for and you can get the best of the best for you without buying hundreds of daylilies. When I see a daylily I'd like to add to my hybridizing program I check it's parents and it's offspring and their parents and offspring. More than a few time I ended up getting one of the parent plants or an offspring rather than the original plant I was looking at. The Dragonfly dawn kids are perfect examples. I could have spent tons on Angel Love, Delaney's Rainbow, Digital Divide, Jammin's Kaleidoscope Jewel, Mackenzie's Rainbow, Neptune's Daughter, Rainbow Beach, Sunflower Blues, Tiger Swallowtail, Vivid Vibrations, and Waves of Joy Lovey dubby . Instead I went with Dragonfly Dawn and Waves of Joy. The waves of Joy for the Tet. Texas Kaleidoscope in it and Dragonfly for it's proven track record for being a good parent. Pod Fertility is also an important to me and both are. I think for both it was a little over $60 and I didn't end up with a garden full of the same genes. Thumbs up

I received my order from Floyd Cove yesterday, and I'm so pleased! I was sort of expecting that they would not be at their best because of their recent hurricane trauma -- but they look terrific! Here's what I got:

PHARAOH'S ARROWS
PRIME EXAMPLE
COOL COMPOSURE
SMILING SUPREME
INNER SPIRIT
ENDLESS BEAUTY
PISTACHIO MOON
GREEN SCREAM (Bonus)
SUBLIME SPLENDOR (Bonus)

And they're all big double fans!

Totally thrilled here!!! Thumbs up nodding

I regretted not amending the soil when I planted the daylilies hastily one weekend, so we are digging everything up including the Lily bulbs (to go in the lily bed), amending with organic material and mushroom compost and replanting all the daylilies.

Phew that’s a lot but it’ll be done and then next year, we sit back and watch the beautiful blooms.

Okay—gotta run back outside and finish up!

Phew -- that was intense. But it's <almost> done. Well, the front is done for now. Obviously, the plants in the pots still need to be planted but those will likely go in the back yard.

Thanks--now that I'm on this PC, I can include what it looked like earlier this year....

We cut the big bush in front of the left-hand window all the way back. It infringes on the walkway to the porch and it was also creating more shade that I didn't want. It'll grow back anyway Hilarious!

Wow, that's a great looking bed and very strategically situated by the driveway and entrance to the front door. You will not miss a bloom! You will be greeted by daylilies blooms first thing in the morning when you leave for work and see them again at lunch time. You will see them for the final time when you get home from work. Can't beat that setup! Smiling Smiling Smiling

And yes about the LA, UH OH! Plan to at least quadruple your daylilies budget!
