Snow cover is great. Snow is an insulator. Without it, I'd probably have a lot more winter kill.

I remember years here when we had very little snow. But the last few have been brutal.

Wow, Karen! I remember it so well.
I agree Snowcover IS great in cold temps, but ours are just barely what one could call cold, having lived in New England. Hilarious!

I remember losing so many wonderful plants every winter there.
Here , very different. The ground stays warm all winter and only occasionally really freezes. Nothing like the rock solid ground I remember....

My Glossy Abelia are in front of the house and benefit from that micro-climate. They do well here.

That's a lot of snow! We had more last year than they've had in awhile. And then there was the ice storm of 2009. I hope I never have to go through that again!! Crying

They say we might have some snow here tonight although not much. The ground is still too warm for it to stay long. It has rained for two days and a drop in temp to below freezing is expected tonight. Glare

Abelias are so pretty, Tee!

Plan to get a double cold frame/greenhouse for plants in pots on the deck so I can control their water this winter.

I had to look. Those are really wonderful photos and the gardens are just splendid.
I have trouble with images in any venue on this website other than Threads. I am trying to do a "Tip" of the day and sent the doc.to Trish but the images didnt paste.

I was told my version of Internet was the culprit
