LARKSPUR! You want to talk about larkspur.

The green blanket on this bed is all larkspur in my yard in January 2010. All of my beds looked like this.

I love larkspur too but they're on my sh no-no list too. I wish there were a sterile larkspur.

LOL - you almost slipped, there!

Yeah - sure looks like a problem child. I'm awfully lucky that I have a good amount of space and anything that spreads too much just gets mowed over, by me or my horses.

So far, I have "tame" larkspur. It only seeds a few new ones each year....just right. Smiling I do, however, clip off the flower spikes and toss them in the trash before some of the seeds have a chance to drop.

Very nice, Janice! What "flavor" of pieris is that?

Well I think you're all kinda lucky there. i can't get Larkspur to grow here to save my soil. I've planted it in full sun, part sun, ome shade and ,mostly shade and it never never lives. One more thing just can't seem to get growing.

There has always been some sort of interruption for the larkspur resowin here. Maybe a 3 year stretch will establish a bigger crop.

To get tall beautiful larkspur, direct sow in early fall, around early September, and keep moist. It will sprout and winter over as seedlings, as in my January photo above. It's very hardy, it will survive winter weather. As soon a temps warm in spring, they shoot up.

Now I want to go see if I have any. We composted the garden but I kept a few bare spots for larkspur and annual poppies. The poppies are germinated but the larkspur i hard to see those threadlike leaves.

Thanks Karen.I do believe there are a few. Not in clumps like yours.
I usually see them in spring when they are tall enough to start to bud. I dont really remember just exactly where I planted them.Just in a general area.

The poppies are looking good.

It's pretty, but there are other plants to choose .
