Evelyn, they will go in pots for a bit. I have three beds ready but need cooler weather until I can get them planted. D'Oh! Just thought of another area where I had two weeping willows that died in the drought (and that were removed) that can be a future bed. Hurray!

The two willows had been in decline for a number of years so I'm hoping the roots already started decomposing. Two years ago we look out a (non-fruiting) pear tree that was sucking really-really badly. I'm still dealing with those suckers! Grumbling Plus this pear tree was right next to where one of the new iris beds is located!

the only one i have on your list of potentials is 'desert moth' which i got last year as a gift. it's in a pot and didn't bloom...so i really don't have any positive or negative feedback on that one. but, i've always liked 'skating party'. i just don't have enough room for too many whites.

Venita Faye is a gorgeous iris, but I gather is not always a reliable bloomer.
I planted five rhizomes of it, but only one bloomed the first year. It has been
increasing well for me and I have great hopes for it next year. It is very, very
pretty.

I like Desert Moth, but have never seen it irl.

Then I can see your HUGE willow roots!

Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Is there another area that you might consider? This root digging is challenging to say the least.

Does anyone here have experience with willow roots?

Rolling on the floor laughing I cheat on making the beds.... My husband has a tractor. If digging is to difficult then raised beds are pretty easy. Dealing with the weeds and seeds from the pasture dirt are a pain though. Grumbling
In another area some of the surface willow roots were fairly easy to remove. The roots were pretty dry.

That's good. Of course, there are always weeds. They grow here under the snow, and once it melts and we get a nice warm sunny day, YIKES!! Weeds everywhere!

This year the landscape has suffered, as I have been concentrating on the fenced garden area.

And now, (in my insanity) I have been double-digging double iris beds. (What about the weeds in the landscape, and the unpruned rosemary and other shrubs and subshrubs???) Oh well... ...

Lilli ~ Yes, there is no time for boredom.

Since this is the thread for orders, I will post my new (small) order. After deliberating and comparing pictures, knowing that Shreiner's never accurately depicts the "blue" shades of irises, I have made my selection. I just sent the order in a few minutes ago.

Pallida arg. var. looks so good with the white stripes and have lots of scent too! Thumbs up

I always look at the pictures of irises I want in the database and often in the AIS wiki too, before I order them, to get a better idea of how they really look. Even if vendors try to use accurate pictures, some colours are just hard to capture and many look different depending on the light and the age of the bloom.

This one just went on my want list because of the color of the iris. Lovey dubby It's the only picture in the database. I wonder if the color is correct because some cameras capture the color a bit differently? Might be a moot point if I can't even purchase it in the U.S.. Sighing!

Cayeux pictures are often more colourful than truthful. That being said, I have some irises which look better irl than in their catalogue, so who knows? Shrug!

In my personal opinion that data base pic of of Ballon Captif has a slightly over processed look. If it helps, here is another picture I found: http://rhs.photoshelter.com/ga...

It might not be perfect, but to my eyes and monitor it has a more neutral processing:
