Way to go Wizard Dave! I thought everything seemed a lot faster this morning!

Dave, purely out of curiosity --- Why does the server have to be located in Dallas? Is it so physically large that it can't be at your house? Or what is the reason? Inquiring minds want to know.

My home is only connected to the internet by a regular cable modem and that doesn't have nearly enough bandwidth to host a large site like ATP. So I place my server in a data center that has huge pipes connected to the internet, offering pretty much unlimited bandwidth.

Why Dallas? Dallas is a hub of internet connectivity and the data center industry is competitively priced there. All major cities have data centers but Dallas is one of the best in the country. It's also geographically centrally located. So it's faster for the west coast people than our previous data center (which was outside Washington, DC)

Dallas is also better than other cities because it's only a 2.5 hour drive for me.

Yay! Site is better...and now our own net connection is working better! Turns out it was hubby's modem going bad...had to be replaced. Whew! It was worse than being on dial-up!

Things were fine here, except for a couple of old threads that said there were new posts, but there weren't (a problem you seem to already know about).

Until just now, when I walked away from the computer for about 5 minutes, and came back to see my time with ATP had expired, or something like that. But I clicked the window away and
ATP was back.

Maybe a server problem? Never had that happen before.

I have no idea what might have caused that. If it happens again, I want to know about it.

I didn't notice much slowness in the past but this ole' southern gal may get whip lash from the new speed! It's really noticeably faster!

Certainly! If the site is slow then it slows down my development work, as well, and it also distracts me from developing new features and working on updating existing features because I have to spend time trying to get the server to be fast for everyone.

With this new faster server in place, I should now be able to turn my attention to my TODO list that has grown once again recently.

Let me get out of your way then. Where is the emoticon with hair whipping back from the speed of Dave's work?

I had problems earlier on my cubit, I previewed a lengthy post and got 'diagnose connection problems' I did the whole post again, it seemed to go through but now it's missing! I guess as the work is done I can try again.. if I feel the desire to repeat myself three times.
