A cold frame helps people with yucky cold weather create a little micro-climate that simulates that of people with nice warm weather.

That's a wonderful project. I love the idea of the lid opening automatically at a certain temperature. Ingenious!

Haven't been on here in a few days (weeks?) so I'm playing catchup. Weather here has been very odd. I have new growth on some of my roses.. and it's going down to 24 degs tonight. It's fluxing between mid 60s & mid 40s for daytime highs. Been super busy at work (this is my busy season at work.. I don't work retail, but rather with an extremely specialized group for a specialized clientele, and let's just leave it at that) and boss has been having me do a lot of work at work (rather than sitting here on ATP.. that sux!). But, today on the way home from the dogpark, caught sight of a pair of bald eagles! I tried to take some pictures, but they were pretty far away, so I just got blurry shots :(

I'll have to spend some time Sunday playing catchup. Smiling Hope everyone had a great thanksgiving!

These long weekends certainly have their downside. Two of my cats are missing again. I think they get locked up in people's garages when they go away for a long weekend. The cats usually show up as soon as the weekend's over, none the worse for wear except for abnormal thirst. I hope they come back tonight or tomorrow and haven't left for a month's vacation.

Amanda and Frodo both came home within the last half-hour, so I guess they were stuck somewhere. Both are extremely hungry and thirsty, but otherwise fine and happy to be home.

Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

I was busy putting up christmas lights this afternoon and then I heard one of my kitties yodeling. Her name is Oracle for a reason: she won't shut up. She was outside. As was like 6 other kitties.. the screen door on the sliding glass door in the back had gotten knocked out of bracket & they got out. Luckily they all ran back inside once I figured out that there was kitties outside.

Will have to take pix of the front yard. My roses are thirsty for blood.. trying to string lights & walk amongst the roses that I can't trim until next spring.. my legs are shredded (they chewed through my jeans).

So glad they are back, Zuzu!
Yes Sue, , re filling you in...I saw a video on the net, where the cat owner was curious and put a mini camera on the cats collar to see where he went at night. It was a scream!! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Janice, was that the one where the cat was stealing things from all the neighbors and bringing them home? They accumulated so much stuff that they eventually set up a table out front and held a 'garage sale' so the neighbors could stop by and reclaim their things.

Hilarious! Hilarious! No, Sue, but that one sounds GREAT!!!
This was one where the owner was participating in a count of mouse/rat kills per cat in England. They declare the best killer cat.
It was unusual, to say the least!l
This owner also put some kind of wire setup outside,so the cat wouldn't eat all the birds coming to her feeder.
It was funny to see the cat wistfully gazing at the birds he couldn't reach. Hilarious!

I used to get my cats stuck in neightbors garages overnight sometimes also. Glad yours showed up safe and sound for you.

I did lots and lots of Fall Mulching but I didn't get to my southside rose bed. I usually each fall collect bags and bags of leaves that I use to mulch the gardenbeds. So this fall I did everything except that bed as I could not find any bags of shredded leaves to use. Didn't do it last fall either so this spring I thought I would be smart and just put on straw. Like from Straw bales. Well, It didn't do great on the weeds and really looked horrible. But the way I put on the leaves unshreaded elsewhere is not good on the rose beds. They need shredded leaves so that I don't end up with globs of leaves stuck to the canes keeping moisture in all winter and causing canker.

Those little dinky roses from Heirloom were the easiest to plant roses I ever saw. Not a distinction they should be proud of, I'd say!
Also planted some from Brushwood which were 5 times their size. It'll be interesting to see how both fare through the winter......hmmmm.

My little ones stay in pots for a while until those roots spread out. I would loose them in the garden that small, or the dogs would step on them.
