I've had this canna for quite some time, acquired as 'Firecracker', but I question that .....
Any ideas? TIA....

Hmmm...I don't know, mine is vivid orange and has no leopard spots. There are so many cannas that it may be impossible for me to get an exact ID. Thanks.....

lol...I've been busy adding database pics and I went back to another foum where I'd posted that pic and started laughing,'cause mine does have spots...lol..I was just coming back over here to mention that. They've never been really apparent to me and I've been growing them for maybe 4-5 years...

Sherry, I'm seeing two small differences in yours to Sue's and one I have which I grew from seed and was said to be Canna patens.

One, the top petals are narrower on yours. Two, the 'lip' above the stamens on yours is red where mine and Sue's in yellow and spotted.

Trying to find the correct plant might be difficult, my seed is from the US. I found a photo which is supposed to be from Hart Canna here, I know this company would do it's utmost to name their plants correctly. The photo on the link looks exactly like mine and Sue's, but that one is not on the site and if it is I can't open the link for more photos. I have enlarged the photo on the site using the magnifier and it also has a yellow lip.

They are holders of the National Collection of Canna here..

The photos on Karchesky Canna also match well with mine and Sue's, maybe yours is an Indica hybrid? Canna patens is a small plant.

Sue, you live in California! Rolling on the floor laughing We probably get half the growing season here and not the same temperatures, I think mine didn't go above 2 feet. I nearly lost it after our last hard winter, it was in a pot in a greenhouse but it started to grow around mid summer. I got 6 seeds and one of those has grown too, I'm bringing it inside this winter.

Well, there are many times lately that I envy those who don't have year round gardening. Sometimes one really does need a break.
I'm not real excited about the large flowered cannas, but I really do like this form of canna, the Indian Shot type. They can blend into a border more subtly and don't have the big 'tropical' effect. I'd recently looked at a pic of the pure yellow form and thought that I'd like to have that also...I was at a Botanic Garden yesterday...and they had the yellow form....it had seed pods....

I grow them for their leaves, I love large tropical dramatic leaves, the bigger the better! The canna blooms have never thrilled me.
