I don't find it particularly irksome to start a discussion, just forget to do so. Not being a computer programmer, I have no idea how easy or difficult it might be to include a reminder to (a) label the plants and (b) start a conversation about the plant grouping.

I went through the code for the Landscape Photos section today and made some updates that may help.

Some of you who have not been able to add tags, could you test it for me by going to one of your existing (but untagged) photos and try adding some tags?

While I don't have any untagged photos I couldn't delete tags prior to your fix. Adding and deleting tags is working fine now and hopefully others will give it a try.

I have never had trouble deleting, but continue to have trouble adding. Randomly, about half the time, I get this error (none of the issues apply) and have to try again.

Thank you Baja. I'll investigate that.

I think we have an improved system here but it's not 100% working properly.

I tried it out with a few images. I didn't have any problems adding or removing tags. I intentionally overlapped some boxes as well.

I'm thinking these pictures really do need to include a field for date taken (automatically filled in with values from the photo metadata would be great), location, and generic caption for more info. Location information maybe should have options to select from like user's garden, other private garden or locale, and public locale. I understand the concern for privacy in regards to stripping photo gps metadata, but it could be used for public location photos at the user's discretion. Having a standardized searchable location like country, state, and zone would be great too. The ability to search the photos by location and zone would be great for people looking for inspiration and plant combination ideas appropriate to their zone. It might even make for nice feature articles to showcase all the users own gardens from a rotating featured location. That might show off the diversity of the site's users too.

I have sometimes included some of that info in the discussion area like @bonehead suggested, but it seems a little odd to make a forum post just to add a simple caption to the photo. Since it's at the bottom of the page, I doubt many people even scroll down to notice it either.

Well, it's been awhile since I tried adding a landscape photo and I can see the frustration. I totally failed. The photo uploaded and 4 of the 5 labels went well, but then one just kept overlapping another one (in the wrong place). I tried starting all over with a new photo, same thing happened. I just abandoned the effort. I do know Dave has been tinkering with this and will just come back at some later point to see if it works better. I'm not good with computer glitches (which are usually my error), they make me curse.

I have been running into the same problem with some labels moving to the wrong spot on the page but with a little patience and deleting and redoing and a couple of other maneuvers I have been able to do it. Shrug! Also, Bone Head, I really like your picture but you posted it twice. I have done the same thing but it is easy to delete one....

Thanks, Sue. I didn't think either one posted, and deleted one myself. Between the two of us, we might have now deleted both of them. Shrug. I like it when things are correct and neither one really was. I'll try again later.

Once you upload it, it's posted.
You can work on adding tags anytime, either right away or come back to them later.

OK, I thought I had to do a final save for it to 'take'. Always something to learn!

I don't see your picture this morning Deb so both must have been deleted and that is to bad because it was a very handsome picture. Hope you try again Deb

Thanks, Paul. I'll do that and if the labels don't work, I'll just keep plugging at them. I find the labels most helpful when I am researching a particular plant and can quickly see examples of them in an actual landscape setting to get a better feel for how they will perform with other plants, and give me ideas. My computer is about to die (it randomly freezes up at me and sometimes screams) and I've ordered a new one, so will wait until I have something more reliable to work on.

Hmm. That sounds rather serious. If it's the inbuilt speaker (there's usually a smaller speaker inside most computers that produces the startup beep or beeps), then it is indicative of some error. If it's not the speaker and is being generated by the hardware (i.e. the hard drive), then it's serious. The fact that it's freezing up as well is not a good sign.

This computer has been a lemon since Day 1. I have a new one on order (NOT a Dell) and will take it to a tech to transfer all my data and get the new one set up correctly. Bad time for computer problems, I use it daily to manage my plants (inventory, location, performance, etc.). I plan to better organize my plant photos and resume adding landscape photos (with labels) next time it rains.
