Wow, 71 degrees! I was pretty happy to hit the low 50s yesterday... and to have at least a week of mild weather coming up Hurray! .

I'm not sure I would be happy to see my plants sprouting up at this point, though...

Sandy, are any of your tulips breaking ground yet?

Heck no! (well, at least I don't think so... we still have lots of snow on the ground, so if they are they are buried!)

We have a few gray parking lot piles of snow, but all other snow is gone.
I'm so done with winter.
I get on my hands and knees this time of year just to find the first sprouting bulbs!
I broadcast granular acid fertilizer around my dogwoods yesterday.
Anything to be outside.

Your part of Michigan must have lot warmer climate.
Here the ground is frozen, down from two to six feet depending on how hard the winter is.

I used to have crocus that would come up through the snow in March but if any tulips came up, maybe because they were close to the foundation of a house, a cold wave would probably freeze the top off long before they were supposed to come up.
I lost too many roses by uncovering them in March after a warm winter.
Around here March can have single digits following sixties or low seventies on occasion.
Double digit sub-zero in late March is not an oddity either.

That sounds a lot like our "normal" weather, RpR... but, it's nearly March and that's a whole lot better than January, no matter what the weather throws at us! This has definitely been an unusual winter.

We always look for woolly bear caterpillers [Isabella tiger moth], they are our true winter weather predictors. Blinking

Folk lore says the wider the brown band is, the milder the winter. The more narrow the brown band the more severe the winter. In fall of 2016 we found a woolly caterpillar with no brown band, it was all black. We wondered at the time what that meant.

Our snow is gone here near Minneapolis-rain and thunderstorms yesterday, but.......later "more snow than we've had so far this year" is supposed to dump down on us on Friday. Oh well! The temperatures are supposed to stay above zero and we really do need the water Glare

@dmmurray407 My parents have a cabin in Buffalo!

I just heard we will only get light snow. I am in North Branch. Snow has always gone south of us. We are on the border of this storm. Will be lucky if we get an inch.

We're supposed to get 3-4" of heavy wet snow, plus some freezing drizzle... yuk. Right now the snow is gone from about half of my veg garden (and the yard in general); the next couple of days are supposed to stay a few degrees below freezing, but after that our highs are supposed to be in the high 30s to mid 40s, so I doubt the new stuff will last very long. Sounds like tomorrow might be a good day to make a pot of chili and some homemade bread! Smiling

@Anderwood, my husband's family also had a cabin in Buffalo when he was a kid (a long time ago). There are still a few "cabins" around, especially around Lake Pulaski, but most folks are here year round.

We were supposed to get a few inches as well, but happily everything went south. I don't think we got even one snowflake here Hurray! I'm ready for spring!!!!!

Much the same here, Margaret -- our high was 28F, snowing and blowing all day... pretty to look at from indoors! Smiling

Gaaaaaa! Snow 19 degrees again. I am so over winter.
Notice seed racks at the different stores here have reduced prices by 40%. We stopped at Menards yesterday and we both saw the seed display - my husband rolled his eyes and said I'll be back for you later.

My tulips & spring bulbs are up 3".

Terrible weather here too, snowed yesterday, and it has snowed most of today, thankfully very light snow so not building too much on the mounds we already have, 24f degrees. Grumbling

Well, most of our snow had melted away, but two inches of fresh snow on the ground this morning and it's still snowing. Temps back down to -14C and expected to stay there for a week or two here in Alberta. That's approx. +7F.
