Greg - I like your near-white with the pink edges; how does it do wrt rust? I like the colors on the poly, but there seems to be a bit of asymmetry wrt petal sizes (something I've seen a lot of on polys).

Boyd - lovely seedling from your wife! Thumbs up

Debra - Yowza! All of them are nice, but I actually think that I like your # 3 the best, even though it has a light midrib (normally something I loathe). The petal color, edging, and the standout throat all work harmoniously together. Lovey dubby
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

Seedlings from 2016...of course.... from Germany....of course ! I tip my hat to you.

I have not yet much to say about the plant habits, all first years bloom, they need another 3-4 years of observation.

But enjoy the pictures

Everyone's seedlings are absolutely beautiful, and are making me anxious to see some of the ones I've started.
The only one I have blooming is my very first from years ago. I only started evaluating it for the last couple of years now. Bud count is low and I have not tested its fertility. It opens with peach shading that fades through out the day and ends up with this lovely lemon yellow.

Hey Marilyn,
It does much better with rust than it's Pink Intrigue parent. Pink Intrigue went down for the count after it's third Winter (a bad one) here. It was weakened so much from the outbreak of rust the previous year, it did not return. That was the first year rust showed it's ugly face here---and was the worst. It has not been nearly as bad as that year since. It's like the plants that survived that first outbreak developed some resistance to the rust. That flower has delicate color, and is a 7" flower on a 30" scape.
Hey Larry,
I really like the intense colors that are well-defined in: ’New Paradigm’ X ’Eye of Horus’
Hey Ashton & Terry,
The green one does it for me, as well the one below it: Windswept Imagination x 12-450 seedling. I do not like the white ray effect---but on that one---it works!
Hey Debra,
Shores of Time X Rosy Rhino is smashing! If that flower is a BIG as Rosy Rhino---it's a HIT! I am partial to Larry Grace X Ed Brown, too. It is the reciprocal cross of Jack Carpenter's "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be". It is Dormant, rust resistant, 6" size, and vigorous. The only thing I do not like about it is the scape. The scape is strong, but only 3-way. However, when I get a bunch of scapes, it puts on a great show over a long time because it only opens one or two at a time, and never crowds the blooms.
Hey Christel,
How is the scape on: Hopelessly Devoted x Worth it all. The latter parent gives super flower fullness and form, but has a very short scape. If the scape is good, then that one is a keeper. It looks like an improved All Fired Up.

Larry - Thanks for your comments about "The Thing That Ate the Seedling Bed." It's a very vigorous multiplier and sets every pod, even in temps in the high 90s. It does have small white teeth on the petals, so I hope it will be a good one for producing toothy babies. So far none of my seedlings from it have bloomed.

Marilyn - Thanks for your enthusiasm about the Precious Candy seedling. I'm not fond of midribs in general, but I do like that bloom.

Vickie and Greg - I appreciate the comments about Shores of Time X Rosy Rhino. The bloom is 6 inches - exactly in between the sizes of the two parents. It's a terrific rebloomer.

Stan - I like the peach shading on your seedling.

Herzlich willkommen, Christel!

(I welcomed Christel and told her that she had some outstanding blooms. I asked her what the daylily hybridization scene looks like in Germany. Are there many hybridizers? I asked how long she's been hybridizing, and concluded by saying that I enjoyed the opportunity to converse in German.)

Vickie, sorry delay in answering your question about washed eye. I would call it a washed eye or a large watermark but I am not certain the correct terminology.

LarryR said:Really nice seedlings, Kid. Nice variety, too. I did a cross with Cosmic Kaleidoscope last season and the resulting seedlings are doing well under grow lights in the basement. Be right back. Going to check to see what the other parent of the cross is.

It's Rose F. Kennedy. Will have to wait until 2018 before I see any blooms.

Larry, That should be a nice cross to see what you get. You mention variety, but I have head the serious hybridizers should be focused on specific goals and not just crossing for all kinds of things. Not that I don't have goals, but I like the variety.
A few more and more variety from 2016.

Love them all, but this one is my favorite! You have some amazing beauties coming along in your seedling Patch.

Is Windswept Imagination the photo in your avatar? If so, will you be selling it this year? I need some details, lol. And if you plan to release the one in the photo above, please put me on the waiting list for it Green Grin!

Regina,
Yes Windswept Imagination is my avitar. It is Rose F Kennedy X Super Fancy Face. We just started blooming seedlings from it and so far they look really promising.
Here is a sibling that reboomed all growing season in 2016. The blooms have measued over 7.5 inches but I don't have much increase of it.

The seedling you ask about is Windswept Imagination X a Stargate Portal seedling. 2016 was the first year it bloomed and we hope it will be worthy of introduction in the future. It is very tall at about 45 inches.

Thanks for the kind remarks, I will keep in touch as we get close to spring.

Hi Larry, nice to see someone answering in German, I'm very surprised!!!!!
To answer your questions:There are many hybridizers in Germany, maybe the names Tamberg, Juhr, Kaiser, Tillmann-Budde, Hohls, Reinermann, Beer and Majaura are known in the US, but there are more. And most of them have excellent registrations, but I suppose only a few of these cultivars are known in the US Sighing! ...................
I have been hybridizing since 2004, my first registration was in 2011, meanwhile I registered 20 cultivars, mostly dips ......and I will go on!
