Pretty Alana, hope you are doing better now. I had a slow start to getting stuff planted too. My husband was sick and our weather has been horrible. Lots of winter sown germination but no flowers yet.

I hope your husband is better. The bad garden years make the great ones seem even better, I think. Aspirational fodder.

@acacius48, @duane 456, @vma4922 or anyone else I sent commercial seeds of Iochroma australis, if you grew them out, were they true to name? I have a plant from those seeds that I put in a pot when it germinated and pretty much left to it's own devices. It's taller than me now, and is going to bloom shortly. I had to pull the top of the plant down to see the buds, which at this point look like something Asteraceae. I looked through my "bought" seeds from the swap and don't see anything that it could be just in case I got the tags mixed up. I've certainly done that before, but nothing seems to match.
As soon as it blooms I will post a photo. Maybe when I see the blooms I will recognize it. Right now it looks like a giant weed.
It is definitely not an Iochroma. So sorry if you are having the same experience.

Hi Alana,
Had knee surgery and couldn't plant much this spring. Keep us posted, but no problem if it's something else....sometimes things happen

It sounds like several of us got our gardening plans side-tracked this year. I hope you are recovering from your surgery quickly.

The bloom is still not open, but I'm confident now that my Iochroma is actually Tithonia diversifolia. I have seeds for it somewhere but have never planted it, so either it was a mistake in the packaging of the seeds and a stray made it's way into the pack, or I have managed to somehow transfer some seeds I didn't plant into the pot I sowed in. Either is within the realm of possibility. There were several seedlings and I culled all but this one. Because it was very robust, that may be the only plant that was T. diversifolia. Hilarious!

I'm going to see if I have any of those seeds left and try again in a few days and see what I get. I think they were much smaller than Tithonia seeds.

For now I have this ragged behemoth that makes it's 5 gallon pot look like a teacup. Poor plant. I'll have to give it extra water and a nice handful of rabbit poop.

Alana, I'll try to get a pic of it when I get a chance. It's still very small. I got some of those seeds from another source, so I'm not sure which is which. I'll just take a pic of all that has germinated.
Never grown that before, so, I 'm not sure what it's suppose to look like.

Me, too. They do have the classic spicy clove Dianthus scent, though not as pronounced as some. They're just lovely. Thank you so much for the seeds!
