Lovey dubby I think your hotch-potch will look fantastic on a stem of 7 or 8 flowers. Just wait and see!

Thanks Lorn and Joshua. Smiling I'll give it a chance.

Joshua, two out of seven blooms on the stem were chimer-ic (new word?), I'll have to see if it holds next year. I did some crossing to test the ploidy because I wondered if it might be something different. Appears to accept both tetra and diploid pollens and set pods on both tets and dips... so what does that mean? Confused Mind you, all could be chaff so it's really too soon to speculate.

Della the chimera is lovely. I like the sweet and soft combination of colors!
However the last one is indeed superb. I love the autumnal tones on it. Like fallen autumn leaves.

Oooh.. thanks.

Another view. Isn't it weird - you see the beauty of autumn leaves and I see a face that lost a food fight at the curry house. I think I must be odd. Blinking Hilarious!

Rick, I forgot to thank you for the link. *Blush*

Here's one from Rick's davidii/olina/tinos background, I find it very unusual:

Maybe next year I'll try it with this Chocolate Canary seedling (from NALS exchange)...

That one from Rick's seeds almost looks like it could be a dessert.

Della, it's completely okay to "see a face that lost a food fight at the curry house", but I'd encourage you to work some more poetry into your floral descriptions if you ever plan to sell your hybrids Sticking tongue out Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

I also like the wacky hotch-potch. Would be interesting to note whether the colour is consistent across blooms or not given it's uneven within the flower.

mmhmm, we'll see what it's like next year with (hopefully) more buds. Thanks.

William, I promise to work on it or you'll have to write my descriptions if I fail! Hilarious!

Thanks for letting me see, Della. Thumbs up
Actually, if you were familiar with progenitor crosses, it would not seem so outside-of-the-box.
There were two basic types of progeny from L. davidii x Tinos:

I guess I am undecided with chimeric flowers. I haven't seen any where the property actually enhanced the floral beauty, and what happens with one flower doesn't predict what happens with other flowers, even on the same stem. But chimeric variegation in the foliage could be very nice.

*le sigh* Look at that beautiful inflorescence on the first one! I'd be thrilled to bits if any of the grandkids decide to take after her (him)?

I've never thought of the possibility of chimeric foliage... hmmm.

Della,
Some very nice seedlings there. I especially like the seedling from Rick's seed and the Chocolate Canary seedling is a real beauty!

Rick, you certainly have some nice ones to work with there - good job.
The seedling from your seed reminds me of some rather unusual seedlings I have that have sort of red centres as well. My seedlings however kind of change as they age. They seems to get redder as they age which kind of goes against what one normally sees - the pink or red fading as they age. In the first photo you will see a fresh flower near the upper right while the other flowers on this seedling upon aging have taken on more red in the centre. The others kind of have a green centre and upon aging get a distinctly red centre. The yellow with a green centre start off a kind of lemon yellow colour and then ages to a gold yellow with a red centre. I do remember one of the parents of these seedlings - a spotless white that as it ages developed a slightly red/pink small nectary flare. The seedlings though have taken this trait much further. Kind of neat in a way.
Jim

I found this photo of a seedling - species that had gold foliage. It only bloomed a couple of years and then gradually faded away. I tried to use it pollen, but never got any seed to set. It just showed up in one of my seedling beds.

Della,
Here is one for you. I have had this seedling for a number of years now. I crossed cernuum with Snow Drop and got two seedlings to maturity. They are very similar in colouring with only slight differences. The one shown here is a little inconsistent in that a few of the flowers on a stem will only have 4 tepals. It is a fairly good grower, but does appreciate good drainage. At least half of the stem is devoted to flowers. It is about 2 1/2 feet tall or so. Funny, looking at this photo now I see that the spots are almost black which seems kind of different for such a light coloured flower.
I did look up Snowdrop in the register to see what its background was, but the only description given by Patterson was - complex hybrid which I kind of assume means that it involved a number of species or???
