I'm hoping for the sake of the car owner that the pic was photoshopped!

Donner, I would be tempted to feed the foxes if I were you, even though most sites discourage it for various reasons. Perhaps you could just leave a few apples by their shed; that would help the mom without encouraging food dependence.

Thanks, Muddy. I will do that. Since the foxes are already living here, there is no point of starving them, right? nodding The poor scrawny mama fox can definitely use some help.

What a bizarre photo. There should be a clever caption for that but I'm nowhere near that clever. Welcome to Maine! is all I can suggest.

I wish I could take a turn with the nesting ducks, but Addy the dog probably would not cooperate.

I didn't read this fully, but here is some fox info

OMG, that photo with the moose!

Donner, those fox cubs are beyond precious. What fun!! I can't believe there are 7... poor mama, indeed. I'd give them a little something extra, at least while she's nursing. The article's advice to put out a little at a time seems sound -- you don't want to attract skunks, raccoons, rats, etc. Bet she'd just gobble up canned cat food or even kibble. A bumper crop of vole predators, Hurray!

All of the articles say that foxes usually leave cats alone, so the mama must be really hungry.

True, she might be chasing the cats up the tree and not actually trying to eat them.
Plant it and they will come.

Interesting. Animals are certainly very protective of their babies. My former cat got severely beat up by a mama raccoon because he kept going there to harass her babies.

Here is the mama fox today. Or it might be the dad who has just done food delivery.

Here's a new deer idea from Cinta on another thread.
Buy cheap small balloons from the dollar store. Blow them up and stake them to the ground. The deer step on them, pop them, get scared and run off.
Plant it and they will come.

@sallyg Must try that idea! I am so desperate that I am willing to try anything to keep deer away.

A few years ago my hubby read about using paper windmills to scare off groundhogs. He put them everywhere in the garden, but later took a photo of a groundhog eating my plants right by a windmill. Sticking tongue out

Deer hate tangles. A piece of fence laid semi-flat will be a deterrent, and easy to move to mow. Stacking and sticking any sticks or limbs in the hedgerow fences is often helpful. It may look like a bunch of windfall but if it helps? The one lady who contributed from Calif. swore by the effectiveness of tangled fence rows. There they had deer going right downtown to ravage gardens because of the drought. They also had mountain lions close by because the game was moving toward urban areas.Your foxes will be no help with the deer other than clean up of any dying of natural causes. Smiling

Update on the Carolina Wren nesting in the kitty litter container on our patio:

Mama Wren has been constantly on her nest over two weeks since she started incubating, well past the normal period, so I was afraid her eggs had failed and that she would spend the rest of her life on the nest. Papa Wren would fly up with a caterpillar and enter the nest box, reappearing after half a minute. He would do this with me sitting six feet away, watching. I purchased some meal worms and would leave a small container of them right outside the nest box. The male would grab one, take in to mama and return for another. Late this afternoon I peeked in the box and did not see mama, so I opened the box and discovered featherless chicks! They were large enough they must be several days old, so I an surprised mama continued sitting on the nest. Guess I'll stop at Petco in the morning and pick up a large container of meal worms....more mouths to feed. Thumbs up

David and the wrens Lovey dubby
I'm happy listening to lots of birds around the yard, including a male house wren
https://www.allaboutbirds.org/...

Frogs doing great around the yard, as well, lots of singing last evening. Son found one on the deck step, so we dearly hope they take up again in the Queens Tears by the porch light.
Plant it and they will come.

Love the wrens Lovey dubby !!! Never saw where they nest though.

We had almost no mosquitoes last year, but they seemed to have started buzzing around quite early this year. We can use some frogs. Haven't seen any frogs or toads. Blinking

We have wrens in small hanging bird nest on our back porch. I love to watch them bring the caterpillars to their nest. Cardinals are also making a nest in our climbing hydrangea.

We're hearing our grey treefrogs "yelling" in the evening, but no tadpoles yet. I bought some Betta fish at PetSmart recently but think I'd better wait until Memorial Day - ish to put them in my pocket ponds, unless I add little heaters to the containers. My theory is that they'll do better than goldfish, which love the water garden containers (with no pump/fountain) until we get a week of 95+ heat, then they go belly up.
