With practically no really cold temps during winter, perhaps we should not have been surprised to find a scape on one of our daylilies, but there is one on Stella's Ruffled Fingers. Not bad, March 20th, which I believe, is a record for us. I now need to keep on eye on Blackeyed Stella and Miss Victoria, which are usually the first ones to show up.

Avedon BES is always in the top two as the first to bloom here also. The evergreen Endless Heart is the other.

Here's an update--Stella's Ruffled Fingers now has five scapes and Miss Victoria's two plants have two scapes apiece. I haven't looked at Blackeyed Stella yet, but since it doesn't get the sun as soon as the two others, I won't be surprised if there are no scapes showing yet. When I consulted my notes from last year, first bloomers on April 21 were Blackeyed Stella, (I think I got the date wrong on this) and Tribal Council. I just looked at Tribal Council and I can see where four scapes should be emerging pretty soon. Tribal Council has always been the first large flowered DL to bloom here.

I have one scape on Parrots of the Caribbean. I got it in September from Maryott's sale. I got a couple of small blooms last year. I'm surprised I have scapes this soon with the up and down weather we've been having. It was below freezing last week.

I had two scapes on Lava Flow a few weeks ago due to our extremely warm weather. Then, last week we had a cold front move through with really low overnight temps...I found both scapes today bent over and turning mushy from being frost-bitten. Thumbs down

So thankful that my other daylilies did not decide to scape early as well!

Can't wait to see your blooms!

Stella's Ruffled Fingers has added another scape. Here is a picture. This is the first time we have grown a daylily in a pot (was planted in this pot just about a year ago--it was three small fans) and already we see that it's probably too small, will have to be either put in a larger pot or go into the ground. Hoping for blooms in a couple of weeks if all goes well.

Well, it seems our long winter (unlike those with "no winter") is finally loosening its grip. I am now seeing my daylilies along the edges of my borders emerging. Still several inches of snow over most of the garden, but at least progress! It was a mild winter here, but snowy, except for February, where we mostly got rain, which I have never seen before where I live. End of January into mid-February is usually our coldest time of year.

Nice to see all of your early blooms Smiling
