I see lots of great photos and positive comments but few thumbs up for some of the plants. Confused

I have a lot and give a lot. Some people may not scroll past the newest images to see the earlier ones so may miss a lot.

Not images, plants.

I've seen plants with images from 3 or 4 people, a comment or two and only 1 thumbs up for the plant. The impression is folks are growing it but don't like it. Either that or we're forgetting to give the plants we like a thumbs up.

I think most are only giving thumbs up for plants to tag it for themselves, not for yeah or nay for the plant itself. I like all my plants Sticking tongue out but I doubt I have thumbed any of them. I only tag images and posts in threads.

I have to admit I've also been remiss in that regard and haven't given a single plant a thumbs-up. Any plant I've bothered to take a picture of, however, is something I like. This year I might start taking photographs for their informational value, but up to now I've been guided strictly by aesthetics.

After reading Daves comment about this being our way of signaling positive experiences with a plant, I went thru ALL of my photos to make sure I gave the appropriate ones a thumbs up. Surely you can do the same. Can't you? Hilarious!

Nope. I'd have to start with the almost 1600 rose cultivars I'm growing, and that would be like a second full-time job, so no. Smiling

Not me either, I have too many images. I plan to gradually try to add comments about my plants, if I ever get around to it.
Besides, I never look at that upper right corner of the entry.

I'm guilty of the same thing. But --- if I haven't grown a plant then I don't feel right giving something a thumbs up because I have no first hand knowledge of it. Example: If I had never grown Clerodendrum shooting star I could see a photo of it especially in bloom & give it a thumbs up. Now, IMO that would be a poor thing to do. Why? Because I actually HAVE grown such plant & it turned out to be invasive as all get out & I ended up having to use methods I hate using (Round Up aka poison) as a last resort to get rid of it. You take my meaning?

Yes, I'm guilty of this, as well. I guess I just don't think about it much. Sad

Dave, the thumbs up in the plant database has me confused Confused . I see a lovely photo that I want to give a thumbs up to the photographer Thumbs up , I have never grown that plant Sad . Is the thumbs up for the plant or the photo??? Is there some way that you could distinguish the two???

Margaret, yes, it's already in place. If you go to the main page for a particular plant you can thumbs up the plant itself. Click on this:
Cat's Ear (Hypochaeris radicata)
in the upper right corner near the photo is a thumbs up which will signify a thumbs up for that plant. You will notice that the photos (thumbnails) below the data have thumbs up you can click on to signify your compliment for that particular photo. See, in the thumbnails the photo in the upper right on the is repeated below.

Well, you learn something new every day. I've never given myself any Thumbs-up except when moving a photo required me to do that. Didn't know I was supposed to. Shrug!

I did not know about the thumbs up for the plant entry. I will have to start doing that now. I think it is a great way to show that it does well for me. Thumbs up
