THanks - The post was more for the parents involved in the cross, than the seedling, i find the daylilies in the cross will still produce nice kids with good plant habits.

This is a seedling showing some of the traits of another group of parents, i like ....

Love those teeth -- very, very nice, Lyle!

How many seedlings do you reckon you currently have under evaluation? I'm up to more than 70 tiny little seedlings now -- and counting; and it's starting to dawn on me that I don't know where to put them all after they're transplanted. I'm assuming they probably won't bloom this year because they're just emerging or have emerged within the last month, so if that's true I won't be able to do any evaluating this year and I guess I'll have to pot them all up because I don't have any garden space available.

Betty – You should have some nice blooms by next year. If you are doing short crosses that should give you a good idea of what crosses work the best for your program. As for room, daylilies grow in clumps so planting them close together is no problem.

I like using 1-gal pots for certain crosses, it also makes it easier to remove unwanted seedlings.

The northern program has just begun and I would say Rudy may have 50 or 60 to evaluate, these will be seen this summer after the southern blooms have stopped. My garden will have 6 or 7 possible new introductions, and a larger number than usual evaluation’s due to fact I’m working with some of the orange daylilies.

Thanks Shirley! I think 2012 will be a better year. The darks are always fun to hybridize, but take a bit more care than the whites, pinks, yellows......

Some from my near white program…………..

Those are looking very white. Nice batch you got there.
Especially number 6 with the large ruffles. And you've got
many with the round look too.

Also like the pastels, ah shucks, on their good days, I like
all colors except maybe brown and mud.

You are so right about the darks being harder to care for.
They show every blemish, but oh so nice on their good
hair days. Big Grin

Thanks for the comments!

The near whites can be as difficult as a breeding for good reds. The reason for the description NEAR white is a true white would be very difficult, with the tint colors of pink, yellow and sometimes lavender seem to be present at various times of the day.

One of the parents I like to use is ARCTIC LACE, some of the above seedlings involve AL. Others I have used are Michael Miller, White Mountain, and President Ronald Reagan.

Shirley - I don't have a list of prices at this time..

Rudy, it is nice to see the snow has melted, and some seedlings are still green.

Seedling 9036 has possibilities - glad to see it is showing some green...also looks to have several fans popping up.
