90% of my yard and gardens are perennials or self-sowers. I don't know what I'd do without them. I'm not a big planter of annuals but I do buy a few every year.

Me too, I plan to keep it that way, just want to get rid of some water gulping plants and go with the more drought resistant. I do have several butterfly bushes, and something real nice that I found is a 'Cup Plant' it catches water when it rains and has seeds, nectar, and pollen, it attracts birds, butterflies and insects and does not need to be watered. Mine made it through a drought and didn't bat an eye!

Yes, it is.
It is best to sow them in the Fall, as they require a period of cold to break dormancy. Then stand back!

I got a small plant off ebay and they said plant it right away it was November or early December and I was sure the thing was going to die. I forgot all about it till I saw something coming up in the area. Also I bought a Lord Baltimore Hardy Hibiscus and that bloomed and bloomed all summer with very little care.

These are all in the back corner of the yard where a hose does not reach and I have been happy with the low maintenance flowers and they never pout.

Very nice. I like red in the garden. I have Hibiscus moscheutos 'Luna Pink Swirl'. Very easy care, drought tolerant and gorgeous flower display here. It seems unfazed by much of anything.

Butterfly weed (asclepias), agastaches, hardy hibiscus, coreopsis moonbeam, gaillardias, echinaceas, and rudbeckias are all drought tolerant for me.

I've had success with some of the Coreopsis, especially 'Sienna Sunset', but not with 'Moonbeam'. Karen, do you have yours in full sun?

I really like the 'Luna pink Swirl' nice shade of pink and will perk-up any area of the garden.

Thanks for sharing, by the way do they come true from seed?
I thought the rudbeckias did really well and I have the burgandy ones also. I ordered some seed for blanket flower and I am planing on dividing the purple coneflower and put it near the fence sence it is the size of a shrub anyway!
