Thanks
I will keep my eyes open when I go to my used book store. I always check the gardening section.
Crow feather is always small. I have had that one for years. Thought I lost it last year.

It seems to me that if buyers had more history on parents of these plants they would know more about there sun tolerance. The book is interesting. Wish they would make a new one and talk about the newer plants

I have Sugar and Spice ... kind of. It is struggling. Of course, all the dang violets don't help. I think the site might be a bit too dry for it, too.

I think different locations and zones have a lot to do with different cultivars. Crow feather has been one of my best growers. But Mystic Mist is a 1 season plant for me, Black Snowflake and Neon Lights are about the same size as when I planted them a few years ago.

Have you been able to underplant trees with your Tiarellas?

All of mine are planted under large trees mostly evergreens , but some light does angle in.

I was thinking that maybe it was too dry - my S&S is planted under a Crape Myrtle that is quite close to an Oak (of some sort).

It might just be the competition for water is too much with the violets so close.

Karen,
I'm not sure how long. I have younger plants come into bloom with the older, but it seems like a fairly long time.

Debra,
Go ahead and try it. The beauty and long bloom time makes catmint worth it. Cats here would rather lay in the False Dragonhead that is beside the catmint. Plus, dig up a catmint to move and it self divides if it's a big plant.

Shelly,
True, germander really reseeds, but is easy to just pull out so it's not a problem as if it rooted all over.

Few in my list are

Agave: Striking perennials with unique appearance
African Daisy (Gerbera): Delicate appearance but incredibly resilient
Beardtongues (Penstemon): Delicate blooms but tough plants
Black-eyed Susans: Cottage garden vibe, charming and low-maintenance
Blazing Stars (Ajuga): Adds color year-round, tolerant to dry spells and harsh winters
