I'm sorry to hear that, Ann. I just clicked on it and it worked for me.
Hmmmm... not sure why.
Can you try on a different browser, maybe?

Discovered these 2 birds roosting at night in the little ledge created by the molding at the top of the porch columns of this rental house. These are the best photos I could get last night. You think they are house finches? I believe 1 is male & 1 is female.

Thanks! I thought they must be wrens as I know we have some wrens next door & they like to play in the lattice of the carport here. Some people here have been talking about how mean wrens are to other birds ---- horrible things they do ---- so I assumed that's what was roosting up there at night. Too hard to see so I decided to take pictures & find out. Very glad to see it isn't wrens. Going to try to get better shots of them. Last night I was afraid they would fly away at the 1st disturbance but they just sat there so i will try for better shots now that I know they don't get too freaked.

I did know the minute I saw the beak that these were in the finch family with their unmistakable finch beaks. The wrens that live next door I identified as Carolina Wrens & boy! can they ever scream loud enough to wake the dead!!!!! Thanks for the comparison photos. I'm surely hoping the wrens won't be mean to the finches!

House Finches are rare around here. I haven't seen on in a few years. Few years back I did have a pair nesting in the biggest blue spruce in my front yard. This was the year before the tree blew over in a windstorm early the following spring.

They can certainly be noisy sometimes, can't they, Ann. Understatement!

Interesting, Rita. We are roughly the same climate zone. I have quite a few house finches here year around. And loads of goldfinches. Not as many wrens, but some. The nuisance bully birds I have are the starlings. Glare

Well, I have House Wrens and Goldfinches. I have seen Carolina wrens in the yard but they don't seem to stick around. The House Wrens actually nest in my yard each year and are favorites of mine. The other cavity nesters I have in my yard are chicadees that nest here each year. Both of these are favorites of mine and I look forward to them nesting each year. The Goldfinches just come for the food, ha-ha. Especially the sunflowers that I like to grow. As soon as the seeds start to ripen those goldfinches just start on eating them. They also like the seedheads of the coneflowers and zinnia and cosmos seed heads.

No bluebirds here or tree shallows in my yard. In fact I have never seen a bluebird but I do see tree shallows flying over in the air many times.

As far as open nesters, there are lots of those. The orioles nest in my neighbors big oak each spring. I have catbirds nest in my shrubs. Often Mockingbirds or Cardinals too. Robins and Morningdoves nest around here too. Lots of bird activity here around the yard.

Lovely. Many of the same birds we have here. Quite a few black-capped chickadees ... I do love them too. They are among my favorites as well. The goldfinches eat me out of house and home over the winter. And thistle seed isn't inexpensive. Sad But I really enjoy them.

We do have bluebirds here, lots of cardinals, mockingbirds, robins and doves, pileated woodpeckers, titmice, juncos, blue jays, Cooper's hawks. And sometimes pesky crows. But they aren't nearly as bothersome as the starlings.

This past January ...

and the arrival of the crows ... I don't think the two cardinals in the first picture know quite what to make of it

I'm not surprised the birds congregate to Rita's yard. You ought to see it. Lovely! What a haven for critters of all kinds. And she grows lots of stuff the birdie's like. Seeds, & berries. Lots of nice places for birds to hide & feel safe.

We cross posted Tee.
Lovely photos! You must be in northern Tn. I love the goldfinches! They showed up at out house down south for 2 winters when they were coming & going each way & then POOF! no more. Never saw them again. Weird.
I have never seen a bluebird in real life. I understand they are in this area so I can't wait.
Will have to see about chick-a-dees --- don't know if they are here or not.
Starlings are monumental pests.

I'm surprised to hear you have Chickadees, Tee-that's one bird I haben't seen here.

But enough English sparrows to scare away a flock of eagles.

Yes, I'm right up near the border with KY, Ann. Maybe 10 miles south of it. Actually, I'm not terribly far from Sheryl. But she has no Chickadees. Confused Oh yeah, the sparrows. We do have those too. Glare

I think we need some pictures of Rita's yard. Whistling Hurray!
