@plantmanager, I hope it works for you. The key is to figure out what you are trying to run away from. It was very easy for me to figure that out, because it was such a traumatic event that happened right before the PLMS started. I am getting ready to tap tonight again. My body is funny. It takes a while to process things, so it's been several days since it has been ready to tap again. But today it tells me that it is ready, and so off we go!

For anyone who enjoys epic fantasy, one of my favorite series is Kate Elliot's Crossroads series. The books are Spirit Gate, Shadow Gate and Traitor Gate. Here is the description of the first book:

World Fantasy and Nebula Award finalist Kate Elliott breaks new ground in a brilliantly original new fantasy set in a unique world of fabled cities, mysterious gods, and terrible dangers. From the first page readers will be swept up in the story of Mai and Captain Anji, as they become unwitting players in a conflict that began many years earlier, and which will shake the foundations of their land.

For hundreds of years the Guardians have ruled the world of the Hundred, but these powerful gods no longer exert their will on the world. Only the reeves, who patrol on enormous eagles, still represent the Guardians' power. And the reeves are losing their authority; for there is a dark shadow across the land that not even the reeves can stop.

A group of fanatics has risen to devour villages, towns, and cities in their drive to annihilate all who oppose them. No one knows who leads them; they seem inhumanly cruel and powerful. Mai and Anji, riding with a company of dedicated warriors and a single reeve who may hold a key to stopping the deadly advance of the devouring horde, must try, or the world will be lost to the carnage. But a young woman sworn to the Goddess may prove more important than them all . . . if they are not too late.

A haunting tale of people swept up by the chaos of war, this is superlative fantasy adventure, rich in texture, filled with color and excitement, masterfully crafted by a brilliantly gifted storyteller.

I have several of her other series on my list of things to read.

Hello!
I'm venturing out of my usual 5-6 forums here on NGA and found this thread. Thumbs up

Since I need to elevate my legs several times a day so I read a lot - a whole lot of books.

Today's book it "A Head Full of Ghosts" by Paul Tremblay.
https://www.goodreads.com/book...

It had a slow start but after it got going I did not want to put it down. Not the best-written book in the world but it keeps my mind occupied while I rest my legs.

I read only hardcover books. Our local Humane Society hosts a book sale 4X a year. I bought 88 books at the first sale and needed to buy a bookshelf to hold them all. I tip my hat to you.

I finished A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman yesterday. It was about a grumpy older man who found himself alone and devastated after losing the love of his life. It uses flashbacks to his past while he deals with the new family next door (and eventually many others in the community) who involve him in their lives no matter how reluctant he appears at first. I must say, it draws you into his world and of those around him, both past and present, more than I thought I'd be at first. I can relate to his grief and sadness. Well done! This is my second Fredrik Backman book.
I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority. E. B.White

I thought I'd ask my reading friends for ideas. My dad just had a cochlear implant done on one side. They turned it on today. He can hear beautifully with it when he is wearing his other hearing aide. Unfortunately, he is losing hearing in that ear as well, so they don't want him to depend on it. They want him to learn to hear just with the implant. That will make it easier when he has the second one. So.... the audiologist gave him all these listening exercises that he won't do because he would have to go on the Internet. (He is such a stick in the mud.) I recommended getting Kindle books where he can buy the Audible version to go with it. Then he can read it while he's listening. I also recommended using the newspaper, since one of their neighbors would gladly pass their copy along when done with it.

Problem is, he's supposed to start with children's books. He can have someone read the book to him, but he has to read along. So they would need 2 copies of any book they are reading. Any ideas for coming up with multiple copies of children's books? Do you think a school library would work with him?

Liz do you have a local library? They usually have a kids section and would likely have more than one copy of something.
Also maybe you can print some children's poems, nursery rhymes or short stories off the internet.

thanks! I mentioned that to my mom this morning and told her about the library's study rooms. So they wouldn't have to check out the books, they could just reserve a room for an hour, work and then go home.

There are childrens books on the net - free.
Of couryse would need two iPads or readers. Nice thing is font can be enlarged.

I read the best book during our vacation.
A murder mystery
Took me a chapter to wrap around the authors style and how she was telling the tale

It is called SISTER- A Novel
The author clearly has dealt with grief ..I wept in many places altho it was not a sad book..it was a pretty good page turner

I gave them all kinds of information on free audiobook services through the library, which the librarian did not give them even though they asked. Grumbling My mom is going to go to the main branch instead of the one closest to them. Not that far, and they will know what they are talking about.

Awesome. I'll look it up.

I just want to report that I am nearly done with Lonesome Dove, and whoever it is who said I should read this, you should know that I am enjoying it but as the beloved characters have started dying off, I'm shaking my fist and cursing that I ever started reading this book that is breaking my heart. Dang it!

I just finished reading 'Lost Boy' by Christina Henry. I recommend it! It's a Peter Pan tale, but not one for the kids. It's a disturbing and creepy horror story, and sets the stage for the Peter Pan book by J.M. Barrie.

I just finished up 'Once Gone' by Blake Pierce. If you like mystery/horror books, I couldn't put this one down. Now I want to find the sequels: Once Taken and Once Craved.

I've also just started a Patricia Cornwell book, 'Point of Origin'. I love all of her books and am re-reading some of the older ones.
