I'll post them in the Plant ID Forum. I brought the plant to a Mid-Atlantic plant swap and posted it in the swap chat but no one could ID it. Also looked at lots of images on other websites (also this one too).

It looks like a variegated Chlorophytum comosum to me.

It sure is a pretty one! Many Spider Plants (Chlorophytum) have white leaf margins with a green central stripe while many others have green leaf margins and a central white or yellowish stripe.

If it's not possible to know the exact cultivar name, the photos could be moved to the general database entry: Chlorophytums (Chlorophytum)

Thank you, I've moved them to the main Chorophytum database.

There are many species of Chlorophytum but knowing the plant is in the US, and that one is only likely to encounter C. comosum, C. bichetii, or maybe C. capense for sale, as far as Chlorophytums in the US go (unless I'm missing some sector of gardening where there are other species of Chlorophytums being cultivated in the US but have never been seen in request of ID before), if it is making runners with babies, it is C. comosum.

No other species are reportedly present in the US:

Unless it came from an overseas purchase online...?

The leaf coloration looks right, but the way it is growing is not right. I hope someone can ID it.

Clarification regarding whether or not it has runners of babies would be good. I'm not clear on that from the pics.

The plant is now in the Plant ID forum, and I asked to clarify exactly that (there is a picture now of an offshoot but it's not clear how long the runner was, if there was one). The growth habit doesn't look right for Chlorophytum, the leaves should originate at the base of the plant, but these seem to be ascending. Hard to tell from a picture for sure.

The spider plant did not have any runners. The babies were on a short offshoot very close to the mother plant. The plants hanging over the pot are some of the babies.

You wrote that "it didn't have any runners" and then posted these photos in the plant ID thread showing long runners so I don't understand. They look like two different plants.

Frenchy21 said:Here are some more pics of same plant but from today. Other pics from last August.

They are the same plant: last year it was very curly and full of babies close to the mother plant. Also it was outside most of the summer. This year the new leaves have gotten thinner and it produced a long stem with a skinny baby. I brought the plant inside when the weather got cooler in October. It's a mystery to me too.

That last plant is definitely a varigated spider plant, but I can't see how it started growing like the first pics you showed. It's bizarre!

I agree I guess it was having a bad hair year! If the purpose of the database is to show what a plant looks like typically, perhaps it's not a good picture to use? I kind of like it though.

No, lets leave them in the generic Chlorophytums entry, they are nice shots and we don't have that many photos in that entry.

Maybe it was slow in producing the longer runners due to growing conditions; possibly being in tight quarters at the nursery? Whatever the reason, I like the looks of that plant! Maybe you can add more photos to the database showing how it turned out.

Will do. I still have two of the offshoots I planted last August. They are not very big yet but we'll see how they turn out too. As soon as we get the new canopy on the deck I can put them all outside again nodding

Thumb of 2017-05-29/Frenchy21/2e8d83

Thumb of 2017-05-29/Frenchy21/97473e You can see the bottom leaves are thicker and and a little curvy but then the top ones get thinner and straight.

If I post these two do I call them pups, offshoots or just young plants?
