Wonderful plants everyone. Oh me, now to think about how to get Fred to boost production. He really needs alot of "That" seedling. In fact, he has several more that I must have too.

Julie, I have seen a few similar buds in my seedlings. They usually put up the odd bloom only once or twice a year. So, I haven't given them much attention.

I think the grower needs to state an approximate average of blooms on a single scape that has the unusual form. I really don't think anyone could say that any plant would be a certain type 100% of the time. Maybe some of the older ones might be that way but I don't think that I have any that would meet that requirement. I guess this needs to be put on the list of things to do by the big guys that make those kind of decisions. Wow how everything changes from day to day.

The info just keeps getting better and better. Blessings to everyone, Mona

I will keep a close watch on this one this coming bloom season, if it doesn't cristate a high percentage then it will ne registered as a single.

Fred, even if was always a single it would be a great intro. Then throw in the potential of being a cristate, well then you have a really big winner. This has got to be a good feeling and make some of those days spent on your knees weeding, planting and praying worth while! You are blessed, Mona

Thanks Mona. Nothing like walking the seedling beds in the spring and summer and find something decent, most will be composted when they are two years old. I have been on my knees for several days recently redoing the display area, the reason I haven't been here a lot.

Oh my gosh ! I'm so glad I found this site. Fred and Lyle, congratulations on your wins on the "other" site with your seedlings ! I have fallen in love with these sculpted forms and hope to find more unique things in my seedlings. Monalisa, I see the mention of percentages for form. One of the most interesting things I have found is that all of the sculpted forms seem to be related in some way. For instance, I have a red that will pleat in the beginning of the season and then show the cristate stuff like Fred's seedling later in the season. I hope this thread will continue, as I find it fascinating Oh, I also received Iron Gate's catalog today. One of their new intro's is a cristate also.

Hey, Sunny! (waving!) Glad you found us too!

I hope that there is more discussion of the various forms here at ATP!

For some reason, I don't have a problem figuring out the sculpts, but put a cascade spatulate whatever UF in front of me and I have to pull out the terms and judges book to figure out what it is.

Welcome Sunny. I agree Juli, we all need more education with all the different FORMS, there have been several added since I started in the early 90s. The "Unusual Form" was probably the most confusing because the bloom can be more than one FORM. Now these SCULPTED FORMS have came along and they can also have more than one FORM. If everyone that is interested in discussing the daylily FORMS would go to the AHS site and print off a Registration Form you will see all the current information, and we could discuss them one at a time. I am no authority on any of this, but maybe between all us we could make some sense of it.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone ! How nice. I started becoming interested in the pleated flowers about five or six years ago. Huge thanks goes to Juli ! I'm lucky enough to be a neighbor, so she did influence me. The other sculpted forms have started growing from there. It's nice to see so many more with an interest in these forms. I see fun times ahead. Fred, I noticed that Tet Barbara Mitchell is in your cristate seedling, do you see that as playing a role in your other cristate seedlings ?

Hello everyone, I'm just finding this forum and trying to participate a bit more. This is just my third year growing my own seed. I saw a few of my first blooms last year, and can't hardly stand waiting for this summer to see them a second time, and discover what will bloom from the next group. My third group of seeds will be sprouted later this spring.

I've really enjoyed reading through the postings here and drooling over the photos. I'll try to check in from time to time.
