I grow pigeon peas mainly because they are used in typical Puertorican cooking. Pigeon peas give more to the soil than they take from it. You can grow other plants under the dappled shade of these trees such as lettuce and beans or cucumbers. They can be trimmed and the trimmings added to the compost to enrich it. The flowers attract pollinators to your garden.
