I noticed 2 entries for Lilium 'Starburst' with different plants shown. Given the folks who submitted images I'm guessing both are correct. Could someone explain why the 2nd to be "registered" doesn't have to be renamed? http://garden.org/plants/searc...

Here's another Starburst

Of course, now, that first one is a TREE lily, and I'm sure that makes it different.

I didn't see Pards answer on the questions, so I will go look too.

pardalinum said:Starburst, hybridized by Lisa Hunt is not registered. There area number of lilies in commerce that are not registered. Any one can access the Online Lily Register (OLR) or the newest supplements on the RHS site to check if their lily is registered. I have noticed that sometimes when duplicate names (for different lilies) appear in the register it is noted that the name is not acceptable due to it previously being used. The lily with an unacceptable name may still have a description which is nice (for the moderator trying to figure it all out!!).

Some of Lisa's lilies are being evaluated by Richard Hyde in the UK and if selected may reappear in the future, under new names.

Thought I'd share it here too. Green Grin!

OK, gotcha, one of Buggycrazy's precious productions. Do you think we could note that in the entry for the orange one, Pard? Not registered as yet?

I also see, as I'm looking at Hydes, that they have taken the Pearl name off Jennifer et al. So, now we're going to be seeing lilies we have as Pearl Jennifer, just listed as Jennifer.

I'll add the comment for Starburst. I think I have done that on most of Lisa's lilies but surely I have missed some!

Why is it, the red/black Starburst, looks like Olina, which is almost identical to Pup Art?

Ummmm.... that is like asking why does the Asiatic lily 'Jacqueline' look exactly like the Asiatic lily 'Linda'. Unfortunately, neither of those are registered but broadly sold in the Dutch trade. Thumbs down Thumbs down Angry

I would add that neither Olina nor Pup Art are registered, as far as I can tell. I'm sure there are many more lilies registered that I don't have access to their registration.

The second supplement to the 2007 register/checklist is current only through August 2009.

Ok, forget about Starburst the oriental lily. Its name now is Playtime. One fewer Starbursts running around is a good thing...
