Andi, do you sow directly into the soil, or start them off indoors first? What will you sow this year?

I've had some wonderfully warm days, a couple of cold days, but, starting today until at least next week it's supposed to be in the 50s!! Yay!! Let's see if I can get some of this to melt! Took this pix this morning w/my phone, about 740am.

Old snow = moisture. I'll take it. LOL But I agree, freshfallen snow is very pretty, but my back screams every time I see it.

We actually have snow on the ground. Maybe around 5 inches. I did know it was coming because I had been listening to the forcasts for the past few days. We were supposed to have a dusting overnight into Friday morning, then clear up, then snow overnight into today. The prior dusting never happened but the overnight snow sure did. This is the very first snow of the winter for us here. The entire winter has been snow free before this. By Monday it is supposed to warm up to 50 and rain so it should all be gone soon. Gone is good by me as I really don't like snow and cold weather at all.

Most of my snow in the front yard is gone. Today was almost 70 degs. Tomorrow, high is supposed to be 38 and then snow again on Tuesday. Fine by me.. need the moisture! Haven't seen rain since like August so any kind of moisture is good moisture. When I got home this evening it was ... moisturing. Precipitating. Can't call it rain, can't call it snow.. too heavy to be a mist.. so how about moisturing? All of my roses are definitely gonna need a heavy trim in the spring. Bleh! Oh well. Going to a LGS tomorrow to check out what seeds they have in stock... hoping to find some delphiniums, especially the Carolina Red! Mine didn't survive. Sad

Did you have to mention taxes?

I like the term "moisturing" that's what we had yesterday morning.

PPal - I know.. taxes really should be a 4letter word, not a 5. Ugh. I need one more W2 then I can start mine. Sad :( Sad I just hope I don't owe too much this year. 2 years ago I owed over $3000.. last year not that bad. major problem when you don't have kids and the gov won't let me claim the cats yet (me & Zuzu would be makin' BANK! LOLLLL!!!)

Why not? Seen some of the celebrities' kids names? With my work, I deal with .. uh.. "troubled" youths. One of the kids we see his legal name is Diablo Two Feathers [lastname, can't say lastname for privacy]. I've also got a Jauhn (pronounced John), Knickolace (Nicholas), and a whole shlue of other weirdo names. Giving your kids weird names is in vogue.

Whirrr!!! That's the sound of my grandmother spinning in her grave. She was so indignant when she heard that one of my high school friends was named Kelly: "Kelly? There's no Saint Kelly!" Imagine what she'd think if she heard that someone named a kid Diablo. That's just courting danger.

Some names seem to almost curse the child. I've known several girls named Grace and not one was graceful. Every single one of them was a galumphing clodhopper.

Zuzu - there *is* a Saint Kelly. Everyone has to be named after a saint for your grandmama? huh. And my name supposedly means "graceful" in French .. and I'm definitely one of those clodhoppers!!! Klumsier than a horse w/2 broken legs on a sheet of ice.

I think my grandmother couldn't translate Kelly into any approximation of a saint known to the Eastern Orthodox Church.

She would have loved you, though. Saint Antonina was a holy martyress. We even had an icon of St. Antonina in our home.

Zuzu - Smiling but my actual real given name *is* Toni. (technically, it was supposed to be TonY, but when I came out of the oven a girl instead of a boy, they had to switch it. Apparently, back then in the USArmy, two birth certificates were prepared as ultrasounds weren't that good back then, but the doc had told my parents I was a boy. That's why I got saddled w/my grandfather's name)

Went to my LGS - Tagawas. They'll be getting in their bareroots next month. The rose specialist there is a little worried about the Bullseye series.. will a lot of people like them? I want to see them myself before I get one. She's also worried about how people are going to like Koko Loco. Told her that I have 2 of them and they're gorgeous. She's definitely getting Sugar Moon (says it smells wonderful) and Ketchup & Mustard.

Just 4.5 more months to go!! Bleh... *sigh*

But you'd be Antonina to my grandmother.

My parents named my oldest sister Svetlana, which is the name of the pagan goddess of light, so she had to be baptized Photinia because she was born a few days away from St. Photinia's feast day. They chose that rather than Thecla, the saint on whose day Lana was born.

I'm not finding a Saint Kelly, by the way. There's a St. Celsus that the Irish claim, but he's so minor that the Russian Orthodox church doesn't even recognize him.

Yes, I'd be interested to know about Saint Kelly too.
