Newb here, trying to get my feet wet. I joined this group because I was specifically looking for a seed swap. Harder to find than I would have thought.

I'm guessing from the title of this swap that it is specifically for home grown seeds and not those that have been purchased, weather in a brick and mortar store or online, correct?

Welcome Karen! Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!

You can do any seed in this swap. The people here are awesome. I did my first swap last year and now I'm hooked. There is a tutorial but don't be afraid to ask questions. Look for the chat thread for those.

Glad you're here.

Welcome! rockpile1369
All seeds are welcome whether self grown, commercial or traded. I believe that the name of the trade means the not so common seeds you can just buy off the seed rack.

Any seeds you have are fine rockpile. It's true that the title refers to seeds that are not commonly found in your local feed store, but in reality we trade those too. Ask any questions you have. We have a big team of friendly, helpful traders.

Welcome, Karen. You are correct that it isn't easy to find a seed swap. This is my first time as well. Any viable seeds are fine. Unless someone gathered seeds from the forest (and some do) then at some point all of our seeds were commercial. All my seeds are from plants grown from commercial seeds. Once you get growing, many plants will produce more seeds than you could ever use yourself. On the trade list you'll see bought, traded and self, so all three options are just fine. If it grows, it goes! Welcome and I hope you enjoy this as much as everyone else.

Welcome! @rockpile1369! I watched the video tutorial twice, once when I joined the swap and again later on. It definitely is helpful, but it helps to learn from the experienced people in the swap. Be prepared to ask questions and expect many compassionate people to answer you.
My suggestion is to offer seeds that you have since you will find that what you may think is common, may not be in other parts of the county. I am frugal, so I canvassed my neighborhood on my walks on found many more to offer. I am still harvesting in my yard so more is to come from me. I must admit, at one point I felt that my offerings were not terrific, so I purchased some packs on sale with discounts. It looks like I did not have to do that, but it made me feel more generous. I am having a fun with the games going on the swap! I love the picture by your name. What is it? Hope you have seeds for it nodding

I have a question about photos...I try and add photos that belong to me if I have them... but how do I go about adding a photo from the data base of the particular one I want...example...the first photo is the one that gets added to your list but I don't want to use that one...any way to add a different one? A few were of seeds or leaves and I want the picture of the flower.
Also is it okay to copy a photo from the web and add it if I disclose that it's copied and not mine Confused

I can tell you that I've changed the photo in a few of my offerings by editing the photo from my swap list. nodding

I think I have opened the page for a particular plant and clicked on my own photo, then linked to it.
Or am I misunderstanding?

How are you linking to it? When I add the name of the plant from the data base the first photo there is always the one that shows up. I want to be able to use a different photo from the data base but can't seem to get it to show up.

I may still be missing what you are asking.

In the page for that plant, I choose my own photo from the line up. Then I copy the url of that page and paste it here:

Oh, I get it. I don't link my seeds to the database. So, I don't know is the correct answer.

But....after you post your seeds, can you go back and edit the entry and replace the photo with your own?

Yeah that's what I mean, how do I link it to the photo in the database that I want to use? Or can I just copy that photo to my computer and use it but give credit to the photographer?

I know how to use my own photo but some I don't have pics of but wanted to use one from the data base.

Well, that did not work. And finally I think I get it.

I've had that happen a couple of times when I've just not taken a picture of a plant or lost my photo, and had the same issue. I have resorted to just providing the address of the photo in the database in the comments section.

In order to add one of those database photos to your listing you would have to download the photo to your computer and then add it to the listing. Each photo's details should indicate what kind of licensing the contributor assigned to their photos. Would that matter if you are using it within this site? Dunno.
