It got up to 90F yesterday. It was 56F at 5:45AM. They are calling for a high of 90F. It's that time of year where I will start out wearing long sleeves and long pants then change to shorts and a short-sleeved shirt in the afternoon.

We live at just under 8,000’

We live in a high desert water wonderland. The early Spanish settlers built a system of waterways to distribute mountain snowmelt and rainfall to the arable land in the foothills.

Our lot is located on a “lateral” which is a small irrigation ditch that is fed from the “Acequia Madre” just a couple of hundred yards north of us. A system of head gates can direct water to us and the water rights passed to us when we purchased our house.

We don’t get unlimited water but we can request it and as our turn comes around we can get 24 hours of water to use or irrigation.

This system is unique to Northern New Mexico.

It is a gorgeous spot. DH and I have visited New Mexico 6 times over the past few years and mainly stayed in the north. We love northern New Mexico. It is breathtakingly beautiful.

Charley, I grew up in Lakewood, CO, and mountain climbed and long distance hiked for most of my 30 years there. Got to see a lot of beautiful countryside!! Tried skiing but don't like being cold! Your mountains are beautiful! I tip my hat to you. I tip my hat to you.

@Charley,

What a wonderful system established by the Spanish and in current day it's wonderful that you're able to take advantage of the water rights. Yes, it sounds unique to New Mexico. I know the water rights in California are a whole different story since it's traded on the NYSE as a commodity.

Cheers!

Enjoying the last few hours of our heat wave ( Glare ). By later tonight it will be gone as the front comes through and cools us off, the heat wave will be history. Today was almost as bad as they said it would be, 88 for a high in the shade. I glanced at the monitor in the bedroom for the sunny side of the house, that one said 93. I don't normally look at that one. Tomorrows high should be in the low to mid 60's Big Grin Now if we could get a bit of rain....

I found more rebloom scapes coming up today while picking pods... doubt they'll get to bloom. We're due for frost anytime...then again we just had a record heat wave so who knows. Shrug!

Love seeing the images... Hawaii, what a beautiful place to hike and Charley's snowy mountain looks so refreshing after these hot days.

Val said,

That oppressive heat is the weather we have had day in and day out since May........coupled with no rain to speak of .

Today the cold front has moved in and it is lovely out there temps wise finally . Still no rain and I am at the point of packing in even having gardens .......might as well just grow weeds as that is all that is doing well here. No matter what , we have always had rain by the 20th of September . Not this year though. Should be interesting to see just how long we go with no rain . Lots of grey skies yesterday .......but narry a drop of rain. I may not have to worry about packing in the gardens they may just do it themselves.

Currently 52, with a high of 93 today. I don't understand wunderground. Yesterday was 93, today's high is 93, but wunderground said today's forecast is cooler than yesterday's. Shrug!

I have been to and through southern New Mexico many times. I've been as far north as the Very Large Array. When we go to El Paso to visit MIL, we always end up going somewhere in NM at least twice. There is a lot of empty space, which does my soul good. The whole drive out does my soul good. There is a lot of empty between Redlands, CA and Las Cruces, NM.

It got up to 93F yesterday. They are calling for a high of 94F today.
