@pistil Every gardener needs some kind of carnivorous plant to hang out with their indoor growing areas, you could grow your pitcher plant to guard the area! Big Grin

(I didn't even realize I could grow one outside, I may just have to try to get your seeds! :hearts:)

I didn't even try to harvest outdoor seeds this year, I have not been well enough. I've had a few plants throw their seeds at me, but it's not really enough to trade, except the runner beans. I'm very pleased with my sundew seed harvest, though, and I think it's possible my iochroma seeds may be tradeable. I've got a new batch of flowers I'm pollinating now and could have extremely fresh seeds to trade!

Mostly this year I've got "not planting this again next year", "ok I give up, I'm probably never going to plant this like I said I would", "oops there's no way I can ever plant this many of these seeds" and "holy cow Burpees must have really wanted to get rid of these seeds!" for trade. Hilarious!

Joolie you should go for the Pitcher plant seeds. I suspect these are Sarracenia purpurea but I don't know for sure. Bur they do live outside in a really wet spot with some primroses, at a friend's house in Monroe, where it gets a bit colder than Seattle.

@Jimard8 - it's okay. This was a rough year for me, too. I had almost no daylily seeds from this season, which is a pretty big thing for me. Sad And the corn I grew ended up being stunted, so I don't know if I should use the seeds or not. I only had a handful of harvested seeds this year.

Wow! I think we all had a crummy year this year. I know between mother nature and my family very little lived long enough to produce seed. Hence the low numbers of offers and seed count (sorry ya'll). This year, I felt some was better than nothing. I've been scraping, lol.

Holy crapoly, guys! I've been so busy that it didn't even click that this is next week!!! WTH... How is it November already?! Lol. Anyhow, thank god I didn't miss the swap. I've spent tonight scurrying to fix my trade list and add more to it. I'll post what I have so far. If I get more time during the week, I'll see if I can add to it.

I have a plan to amuse myself for after the swap:
I will gather the varieties of seeds I saved for myself, or packs I have bought for myself, and check if the Plants database has a decent photo of the seeds.
If not, and I am sure of the ID, I will photograph the seeds and upload them (I do not add photos of specific varieties much, I add to the species listing, we do not need to clog the database with useless duplicate photos).
I find it very useful to have such photos in there, also of the seed pods. Also of seedlings. I also use http://theseedsite.co.uk

I fiddled around with this a bit over the last few years, here is my advice for how to take a decent photo:

1- Put away your nice expensive camera, get out your cell phone. The tiny sensor gives a better (deeper) depth of field for close-up photos.
2- sprinkle seeds on a non-shiny piece of paper, put an old less-shiny dime by the seeds, for scale.
3- brace camera on a pile of books or a box or something to lessen camera shake, check to see you can still focus, too close and you cannot focus. I generally do this near my window and skylight during the day, the cell phone flash causes reflections and shadows. Not in direct sun.
4- Take a picture.
5- Optional- crop and label in the cell phone
6- Upload photo to database.

Great advice Pistil. I do the same as you about pics. I look for a decent photo, if it's clogged, I'll not add. What is the point in another photo of the same bloom? I usually spend the winter going through the photos I took over the season and get some of them uploaded here. Whiles away the time for me.

Thank you for the advise, Pistil; it's a great idea. Thumbs up I also like to add photos of the newly sprouted plants.

Boy, I sure appreciate folks that add photos of seedlings to the database. Every spring I go out to my raised beds and play the "what the heck is this?!" game. Most of the stuff that sprouts is stuff I didn't plant (I have LOTS of birds and squirrels), but if I can ballpark guess, the DB helps confirm/refute my hypotheses.

My longest game of "what the heck is this?!" was three years, only to find it was a stinking iris. Not stinking like, "geez ugh, a stupid iris", but literally a Stinking Iris. I was so mad. Husband laughed forever. Sometimes the birds give me amazing flowers, sometimes they give me roast beef scented bland irises. Oh well.

(I figured no one would want any of the seeds, lol)

I always look at each individual's listing as well as the recently happened list because I swear there are things on the individual listings that aren't in the big one. Whistling

Today I was surprised how many of our registered swappers haven't listed anything yet. I hope they won't have to drop out because of a time crunch in a few days.

I'm having a great time going through my "keepers" and seeing just how many I really don't need. I hope some of you will. Group hug

Edited to add: Julie, I was laughing so hard at that, seriously....I made my husband listen as I read your post aloud to him and I literally couldn't make it through the post, I was laughing so hard tears were rolling down my cheeks and I had to squeak out the part about roast beef between the fits of laughter.

Does anyone know what these might be? Got them pumpkin picking and wanted to know if they're edible and if the seeds are worth swapping.
Thanks
