Edited to add: Julie, I was laughing so hard at that, seriously....I made my husband listen as I read your post aloud to him and I literally couldn't make it through the post, I was laughing so hard tears were rolling down my cheeks and I had to squeak out the part about roast beef between the fits of laughter.

Hahahaha I'm happy me and my beefy irises could provide comic relief. Hilarious! ❤️

That really does stink Julie. I'm going to have to look that iris up. I've never seen it for sale at my iris club.

EXACTLY! Can you believe I waited three years to see that dull flower? I figured it was some kind of iris by the look of the foliage, but...

Also you can see why you've never seen it for sale. Good thing there's no internet smell-o-vision or you'd be able to SMELL why.

Hey Newbies-
I know how overwhelming it can be to use this program the first time. It is actually very well designed, but there is a 'learning curve'. If you are stuck, I will offer to spend an hour or so on the phone with you, walking you through the steps of listing seeds and how to do the actual swapping. Depending on how computer savvy you are, it probably won't take that long.
Also, if you are nervous about the first minutes of the swap (it all seems to happen at hyperspeed), don't stress, you can go at your own pace. You might not get those few high-demand oddball seeds you covet, but for the most part you will get stuff you want.

Hammer, I would totally try to eat those. Of course I'm a little weird that way! Rolling on the floor laughing I had a couple weird/ cool looking pumpkins from a couple years ago. After seeding and roasting them, I treated them like zucchini in my recipes (zucchini usually uses more sugar as it's not a 'sweet' squash) made some great bread with it.

Had to share this...
How many times have you been out in public, admiring the scenery, stopping to look at the flowers, bushes, trees, and think to yourself

"How can I get those seeds?!"

Been There, Done That.

For many years now I have carried small zip bags wherever I go. I also have a stash of zip bags in my car. You never know where you might find those little darlings. So sad when they are behind a locked gate and nobody is home.

I've been getting this message when reloading the swap page. Is this DDOS prevention going to interfere with our simultaneous descent on the servers when trading starts?

Joolie, I'm getting the same message too - https://garden.org/thread/view...

I think it will interfere with our trading, especially at the beginning of the swap when 6 or more traders are competing with each other for the same pack of seeds, if the message only appears on some computers but not all.

@Dave, might there be a way to eliminate this message, either from this website or from traders' computers that are affected by it?

Thanking everyone for mentioning this, and Dave for any consideration you can give this nuisance.

(Earlier in this thread, I gave everyone acorns for bringing up the idea of each plant having one name and only one name to make searching and listing easier to manage. I'm referring to the scientific name which is unique to any given plant, as opposed to the common name which can have oodles of companion common names all referring to the same plant.

That said, when taxonomists get to fooling around with scientific names, those can proliferate too, but imho perhaps not as frequently. Hmpf. If I keep talking here, I just might circle around to arguing for prioritizing common names over scientific names. Am shutting up. Peace. Sighing! I tip my hat to you. Hilarious! )

Seems like people on multiple browsers are getting the weird message. So I don't think anyone will have an unfair advantage when bidding starts.

I'd just recommend getting to the swap page a bit early. I know you need to refresh to get the treasure chests but the message only appears for a few seconds. If you are having issues with the site refreshing slower than that you need to take that up with Dave ASAP.

If when swapping starts someone is really delayed they should mention that in a thread. If they wanted one of my seeds I'll do my best to add more packs to the swap if I have the seeds!

I glad someone brought up the message thing, I'm getting it too, just to get on this site.

Yes, rockpile, been in that situation many times. I've waded through ditches to get to seeds. Hilarious! Rolling on the floor laughing

I'm getting them too. A few seconds at the wrong time could cost you a dearly wanted pack so seeds. Glare

Just checked the Site Talk forum and the site has been under a massive attack. Someone is trying to steal the database! When the attack is really bad the defenses go up and check each visitor to make sure they are legit. That's why we get the delay. I just logged on and didn't get the message so hopefully the attack is over and things are back to normal.
