Greg, thanks for the suggestion but I don't think so. Fritz @IrisP has a photo of each next to each on his website. His photo of 'Iwein' is much bluer. He would probably be the most qualified person ID this one.

"It's back to work for me tomorrow morning so I would like to finish up here. Here are 11 iris - some incorrectly labelled at the gardens and some where I was uncertain of the ID because markings, colour or beards are different. If anyone can positively identify them we can add them to the database."

correct:

- Duke Of Bedford
- Enchanted Violet (the color on your photo seems tobe to red, but should be correct labled)
- Perle Rose (Jean Cayeux 1990)
- Pink Angel

--

- Repartee = High Command

--

"...One or two are on Hans's website @IrisP but some ..." - My name is Fritz Smiling

--

- Tristram = Alstersegel, TB, Denkewitz, 1980

--

correct - but never registered:

- Arezo
- Eroica
- Froher Sinn (your camera have a problem with purple-violet - it is too red)
- Iwein
- Meissner Porzellan
- Rosamunde

--

- L'Lita (Tams, 1960)
- Mandarin (Cayeux, 1990) (there are 6 iris named Mandarin - 4 exist in knowed collections)

Sharlene - Thanks so much for posting all these lovely historics!

I do have one question though - why is such a yellow iris named Pink Cheeks? Hilarious! Though, I see that Fritz's photo in the AIS shows it does have pink cheeks, answering my own question.

Sharlene.... what a beautiful thread this is. Lovey dubby ...honoring the older irises and the hybridizers that have given us such beauty. Smiling I have bought a few of these here in the U.S. but they did not bloom true. Sad

Fritz i look forward to your photos of the little early irises. One vendor in America offers Three Smokes but they are always *out* when i try to buy it. Shrug! Hilarious! Thank you for your input, knowledge and photographic talents. Thumbs up

Sharlene..... I tip my hat to you. Thank You!
