Something we don't often (or ever Hilarious! ) think about is that without photosynthesis we, and most other life on earth, could not survive either! We just don't do it ourselves, so we eat plants, plus products from animals that have eaten plants.

Here are the seedlings. I really need to get them into those individual pots.
They are just over a month old and about 4-5 inches tall.

OBTW, planting medium is cactus potting mix... it seems that I do nothing of the norm.

Mine are about the same size as yours, Stan, but mine are a much paler green at the moment, coming very close to our shortest day (which will be about 7hrs 20 mins of weak daylight). And everyone wonders why British people get so excited about sunshine!

My late seedlings just got hit with a hard freeze a few days ago and the dormant and semi dormant types are starting to show dormancy. I have no doubts they will be fine come spring. Speaking of spring I have about 70 packs of seeds maybe more counting bonuses from the LA I purchased over the past 2 months for sowing next spring along with about 15 more packs from DND's swap I'll be planting. It's going to be another fun but busy year in 2018. I have about 60 persimmon trees to graft, various cuttings to root, and other seeds to start this spring. I also have 100 plus potted trees that need to find there way in ground sometime next spring.

I have had a few white seedlings, I have been paying close attention to. Today I noticed they are turning green.

More than likely the white seedlings are from seeds that where planted a little deep. Once the seedlings found light photosynthesis started happening and the leaves filled with chlorophyll.

Daniel I think you are correct. At first I was thinking they was albino seedlings, then I noticed they were a little deeper than the other ones, this is the first time I have used pro mix, and I did not know exactly how much it would expand. So they started off 1/4 inch deep, but after water hit the mix I think they were actually about half inch deep. All of the white seedlings, are in the pro mix. I am waiting on this one to turn green

I usually dampen the mix first, then plant the seeds rather than the other way around. Then I bottom water rather than from the top. That should prevent this from happening.

Since I put my cups out (12-12-2017) containing my seeds for the trial, we have had several nights down below freezing. The weather has warmed back up considerably over the past few days reaching up into the mid to high seventies. Here is a look at the weather so far for this month.
https://www.wunderground.com/h...
Today I had three cups show the first new seedlings since being planted , now to watch and see how they continue to progress till spring.
You have to have good eyes and look close but each of these cups now has at least one new seedling.

Some of my seeds are sprouting in the fridge and as it's the first full day of winter, I have no idea what to do with them... I don't think I've got enough light to keep them happy til spring Sighing!

My seedlings are doing great so far, right now I have them under 2 lights, the lights are only a few inches from most seedlings, but some of them are touching the bulbs, it maybe time to move the lights up some. I also have 1 pot that has about 30 seedlings in it, I may need to thin that pot out. I have not fertilized them yet, I still have a few white seedlings that have not turned green yet.

Lost 4 seedlings today. Hoping this is not a trend like the last 2 times. All 4 in different pots, and in different stages of growing. I have a fan in the room they are in, and I have been letting the window up for a few hours each day.

So sorry about your seedlings! Does the soil feel too damp? Do you think it is damping off disease?

The next seven days are predicted to be very cold for here. Temps will be dipping down into the twenties for seven days in a row, very unusual for here. So this will be a good test to see if any of the daylily seed planted and sprouted in December will make it though this cold spell. If they do then that to me means that normally in this part of the country it is seldom too late to plant daylily seeds outdoors (I should save that judgment for a year probably). It will be interesting to see if the tiny little seedlings can take such prolonged freezing cold weather after being so recently planted. There are now at least six of the cups with seedlings.
