We went for a walk today.

I gained 5 lbs. over the past month or so. It really wasn't because of the holidays but because of bad everyday choices I was making. I was eating yogurt raisins between lunch and dinner because they were filling and satisfying. It turns out they are high in fat, so no more of that.

I remember how good those yogurt raisins are! I love them, but don't buy them anymore. Too many calories. Keep walking, Kelli, and those pounds will come off again.

Keep walking, Kelli. And don't beat yourself up over 5 pounds. It's just a little bump in the road.

I did a good mall walk this morning all by myself as none of my usual companions were able to walk. I walk faster alone. And I walked longer because I fetched my purse from the car after 5 rounds and did a bit of shopping. Ordered a new pair of glasses to replace the 10 yr-old, badly chipped pair that I keep in my car. And at The Bay, bras were 40% off plus a seniors' day discount. I had thrown away a few bras recently and badly needed some new ones. I did almost 6 rounds of the mall by the time I was finished.

Heaven knows they're expensive!

I walked on the treadmill this morning, 1.5 miles in 30 minutes.

I did 90 minutes of exercise New Year's Day. Yesterday my exercise was taking the tree and decorations down, that was a lot of work. Sticking tongue out

I don't put up a Christmas Tree or decorations which saves on lots of work since I don't have anything to take down either.

Tomorrow will be shoveling snow. Grumbling

Be careful, Rita. Shoveling snow is really hard on the heart.
https://www.washingtonpost.com...

At our age, I don't think it's worth the risk. We had a friend who was healthy, a good healthy weight, never smoked... had a heart attack shoveling snow when he was in his late 50s. He had another, fatal heart attack a couple of years later. So now, we just don't shovel snow. Sometimes we pay a neighbor to do it with his snowblower if he comes around. Otherwise... it can wait until spring.

If there is a big snow then I pay to have the snow shoveled. It just depends. So far this year I have done it myself but is we get the near 12 inches that they say possible I will not be shoveling but paying strong guys to do so.

My DH works his butt of shoveling and snow blowing here, we have a huge driveway. He doen't want to hire anyone, it would probably be pretty costly with the amount of snow we get here. Blinking

That's smart, Rita. Take care and keep safe during the storm.

Margaret, it does get expensive paying someone to clear the snow. But I tell my husband that I can't AFFORD to lose HIM. And I've already had a heart attack so there's no way I'm going to do it. At most, if it's just an inch or two, we sweep or shovel a narrow path so we can walk to the mail box or visitors can walk to the house. And fortunately, most years we don't get much snow at all.

It sure does Karen, I feel really bad for him, he is a great fly fisher man and fly-tyer and some days it is really bad. So far he hasn't gotten too discouraged, just takes his time. I think if it were me I would be totally depressed to be right handed and have those awful uncontrollable tremors. Crying

Margaret - I'm sorry about your DH's essential tremors getting worse.

We now hire a company to blow out our driveway but we still do the front walkway ourselves. For a number of years DH had a deal with the neighbour across the street who has a snow blower but also an adult, autistic son who is afraid of it. DH would use her blower and do both driveways, but he really did find it a lot of hard work even with the snow blower.

I got in the first aquafit class of the year yesterday.

We had no tree this year as we went to Vancouver for Christmas; but I got out the rest of our decorations. We are having 4 friends in for dinner next Monday and they will stay up until after that.

I will take down the Christmas decorations next week. My mom always waited until after January 7, which is Eastern Orthodox Christmas. (They use the Julian calendar.) We are not Eastern Orthodox or even of that ethnic heritage, but I think my mom really liked Christmas. It's my favorite time of the year, too.
