Oh, is that what's wrong with me?
Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Mat.6:28-29

Woofie, I define the difference between a shrub and a perennial as a shrub is a woody plant, and a perennial is an herbaceous plant that lives for more than two years. But technically I think trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants that live more than two years would be considered perennials.
See, now I'd put roses and lilacs in the same category. My list would have been Lilacs, Roses, Peonies, Daylilies...and...er...well, something else! Hee hee, can I have a bunch of annuals for my fifth perennial?

, Love those river rocks as a border. Fabulous red bed, can't believe how long it is!

Beautiful pics. The memory of that red bed has stayed with me for a long time.
It's funny too, how some of us visit different garden websites, have common friends, some of us broaden our horizons and join other sites as well while some stay firmly planted in one place forever and ever.
