Well it is NOT purple, and it is NOT a double, so what else is new with these plants, the bud was pretty long and fat, but the open flower itself is dissapointing it is single and small, and red.

I'd be pretty happy with that true red, anything away from the pink side of the spectrum is a plus.

It's too much rain. most likely, and yes, I would cut off the rotten branch and put cinnamon on the cut tip.

Mike according to my rain gauge we had 31/2 inches of rain in four days and that's been pretty much a constant for awhile now. Yet, other then very few blooms all my plants in the ground look healthy and so far none have a soft caudex. I guess I'm fortunate in that we have VERY sandy soil that is fast draining. But with all the rain I haven't been giving them any miracle grow. I did have a problem with letting my seedlings too close to the edge of the overhang on my porch and they got soaked but I was able to save them. At least all of my rain barrels are full, today I'm going to empty them so I can clean them;and I'd bet the moment I empty them it won't rain for weeks' Grumbling
