Not usually an issue for me, either.

When I thought that the grains of Perlite had been stained green by algae, those actually turned out to be very small, slow-growing Penstemon sprouts!

I don't have any sprouts at all yet but next week we will hit 70 degrees for the first time. I think spring is on it's way to Indiana (new memeber of zone 6 woohoo). LoL It's been hard to remember that I am in zone 6 now.

Terese, the hardiness zone map has been revised, and some zones changed.

No Terese, I didn't move the hardiness zone changed here. One of the ladies here told me. My city changed from 5b to 6a. a small corner of my county is still 5b. I am trying hard to remember that more plants are able to survive in my climate now.

Anita, the USDA also said that it MAY be partly an artifact of having more-detailed information, or better analysis.

no growth on my ws containers yet... but from Sun to Thu of next week all in the 60's... blessed spring... I just imagine what summer is going to look like!!!

my zone went from 6 to 6a... is not a big difference when I look at a lot of plants... and roses specially!!! plus I never really believe it since I live in MA, and here the weather is really not reliable... Sticking tongue out

**doink** where have I been??

Anita -- when i looked at your city, i didnt think you had moved.

I checked... i went from 5a to 5b ... don't think that is much of a difference.
I think this winter i'm about a zone7.

I was out pulling weeds today, the ground was in fabulous condition for digging, nice and fluffy. not frozen one iota.

warm up starts again tomorrow....

You're way braver than I am , Allison. I don't believe we're over freezing temps for good yet. I don't care that the USDA people think we have gotten slightly warmer Smiling

I'm with Allison, I think freezing temps are pretty much over. I plan to do annuals soon as time allows. A couple of days ago I bought a new bin for cups of tomatoes. (One of my old ones fell apart).

The thing is, after all these years of wintersowing, I accept the fact that late frosts can and do occur. I'm willing to cover the annuals for a few nights, or even move them into the garage overnight if necessary. This approach has served me well. Otherwise, I wouldn't be thinking of sowing them yet.

After today, our 15 day forecast is for days in the 60s-70s, lows 40s-50s. Even allowing a wide margin of error, that looks pretty good and extends to March 24.

I'm working with annual seeds as well; mostly the slower growers for right now.

I'm really excited! I have some Lupinus angustifolius sprouts! Hurray! This is the first time I've had any seed-started Lupine.

It's supposed to be 34 here tonight (it's only 29° now), then looks good after that. Even if the weather guys are way off, 10 or 15° is pretty safe.

I've been in my basement sorting and starting laundry (bleh) and cutting up milk jugs, and on tap today is laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning, etc. I'm going to try to do a little prep in between, like cutting up more jugs.

I think even more exciting than the approaching warmth is the start of daylight savings time. That's better than Christmas.
