I just love that many of the Maryott daylilies put up scapes and bloom so soon after I receive them. I had something like five of them bloom for me today, and I've been collecting pollen to freeze for next spring! I took pictures but haven't had time to look at them yet.

Im guessing that the weather that was delaying his shipments also delayed blooming on many of them. I've had scapes on BLUEGRASS MUSIC, NEW PARADIGM, ANNABELLE'S BLUSH and ZOE ALLEGRA.

I've been purchasing Maryott's daylilies for four years now, and I always have a bunch that bloom within a month after receiving them so I don't think it's just that everything was delayed this particular year. Last year I purchased 34 daylilies from Maryott's in three orders, and I had something like 18 or 19 of them bloom for me within 4-6 weeks after I received them. I don't know what he does to get them to bloom so soon after I receive them, but it's wonderful and it happens year after year! Just like Christmas!!!

Sorry to get back on subject -- I'm through, so you-all can take off again now...

I got a little worried earlier because I couldn't remember which thread we were plotting the raid on! That rooster, and the rams at Jan's house, are going to make a great feast!!! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

That's interesting. My plants from Maryott's don't typically bloom the year they are planted. Many of them come with cut scapes and since it is often cooling off by the time they settle in I don't get rebloom out of them. The weather this year has been so strange around here things put up scapes in March, I have rebloom, and plants that were planted this year are flowering for me. One is even reblooming!

Now, about the raid at Jan's house...

Now folks, I know that I'm new here but Jan has been an enabler so you know what they say about "the payback"????? nodding Whistling I think that I need to be included on this raid. My dog, Mari, is a Cardigan Welsh corgi and they are bred to herd cattle and sheep so she might prove helpful and does not take up a lot of room. Thumbs up We could have our own herd of herding dogs to herd all those sheep and rams Thumbs up Since Jan is in WI the daylilies she grows would do well at my new place. nodding I've got a great recipe for the ram that can be cooked on the grill. If need be I could borrow hubby's truck and trailer and I've got my GPS.
Life is short, enjoy the ride!

Karin, meet us at Jan's, and then we'll all head to Rita's together. Oh, and Mari better come along! I think we're going to need plenty of backup! Maybe you can swing down to Indiana and pick up JWWC on the way? Rolling on the floor laughing Thumbs up Whistling Hilarious! Rolling my eyes.

It's okay Jan! We don't have any idea where you are at home, either! That's why we're bringing the dogs! Bailey is a hunting fool and can find anything!

I can't wait to see the latest blooms that you get! Do you use the late bloomers for hybridizing? I'm just worried that they would bloom so late here that I wouldn't have time to harvest the pods before it starts snowing.

I'm not really hybridizing.... yet. I just like late flowers. By the way, here is Best In Class. In real life it is a much more vivid red

Love that one Jan! I have the hardest time getting good pictures of reds and purples. Somehow the pictures never do them justice. Your picture of Chicago Apache shows the color better than mine though.

Now, explain why you aren't really hybridizing! Rolling on the floor laughing Maybe because you are smart and know what an addiction it can be? Whistling Hilarious!

Heh heh, heh, she thinks we don't know where the place in Pa. is but she gave us so many descriptions on the chat thread.... PLUS those lovely photos of the Allegheny River..... If all else fails we can tail her when she goes up there the end of Sept. & we don't have to bring the grill as she already moved hers up there. Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Oh I have purchased seeds, and done a tiny bit - but nothing where I am documenting what I do - just playing at it so far. And this year, even though I HAVE documented, the few I did haven't worked. I think I have about 3 seed pods - and some were not from me! Everything else melted.

Perhaps next year! ~Jan

Why don't you collect pollen from them and freeze it, and then you'll have some great pollen to put on your early bloomers next spring. That's what I'm doing.

Betty, that is a great idea! Jan, you really should do that! That way, if you decide next year that you do want to try again, you'll have some great pollen to use! Besides, next year is going to be much cooler, right? Thumbs up Whistling
