I was surprised to see them...probably a whole zone higher down near the highway!

Anna, saw "Bluebonnets", and missed "Mtn. Laurel" in your post. Yes, those are Mtn. Laurel blooms. They smell like grape soda to me!

Well, our hills also go down to the highway. Possibly, a little warmer along I35 with all those semis and stalled traffic kicking up some heat! I think we may be a little disappointed in the bluebonnets if we get much more rain. All those wildflower seeds that get thrown out to make the highways so beautiful, sometimes grow faster than than bluebonnets and block the sun from the bluebonnets. "No good deed goes unpunished."

Grape koolaid smell to me! Yes, I walk out the door and the fragrance of all those tons of grape koolaid blooms gets to me right away! That's what happens in Texas Mountain Laurel territory in a really good year! It makes me a bit giddy! I've seen the bluebonnets blooming...just not on my place quite yet. For some strange reason, no bluebonnets came up anywhere in my yard, but the front part of the property still has quite a few..almost ready to bloom. Right now, it's spring, but also fall time...if you look around outside and see live oak leaves all over most of your yard, you know what I mean.

Quick trip up to lake yesterday. Bluebonnets were already out and just beautiful. These were taken on a little highway going into Kingsland, TX. All I had was my smart phone to take pics. The flowers were covering both sides of the highway. They were growing in the rocks too. Weren't many places to pull over safely, though.

The ones in Austin (on Loop 360) are just starting to peek out.

They were much prettier and fuller in spots, but we just couldn't pull over. 'And fields of light lavender flowers going into Marble Falls as far as the eye could see. Don't know what those are.

I saw blue bonnets along 35 in Lewisville last Friday. It doesn't look like any of the seeds I threw out last fall took. Sad

But the poppies and larkspur did. Oh well, I'll try again later this year.

I think every poppy seed germinated. I will have to post a picture of how stunted they are where I didn't thin them

I just couldn't thin my poppies. Sad I want them all to live.

Just spotted my first hummer of the season! A black chin. I actually saw it long enough and close enough to ID it, which is highly unusual for me.

Hurray!

I have to run around jumping and dancing the happy dance and telling EVERYONE I saw one.

Hurray! Hurray! /DANCE /JUMP /DANCE /JUMP

now I need a nap. Sticking tongue out

It must be spring because all our oaks are shedding tassels and inch worms! Why can't they all agree on a time and shed together????

Ugh on both. I've seen more caterpillars this month than I've EVER seen in our yard. YUCK!

I used the leaf blower at least 4 times this afternoon. The stuff kept blowing up on the patio and we'd track it in. Hopefully tomorrow night's rain will get the rest out of the trees. Our lawn furniture is stained with the tassels. Can't wait to get the walkways power washed. those worms that look like pieces of sticks ick me out, and they're everywhere.

I'm trying to figure out why butterflies are flitting in and out of our cedar clump in the back of the property.

I'm also excited to say the Turk's Cap AND the Blue-eyed Grass both made it and are growing strong! Still no sign of my chocolate daisy, Boo.
